Exploring Life & Business with Keiara Johnson of Pure Skn Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keiara Johnson

Hi Keiara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Of course! Let me start by introducing myself… My name is Keiara Johnson and I am a 29 yr old licensed Aesthetician residing in Philadelphia Pa. In January 2024 I opened my very own skin bar that focuses on corrective skin care and acne prone skin. This was a personal venture that I honestly didn’t know I would embark on. All my life I’ve struggled with eczema, which translated into me being very shy and insecure about my skin. I was constantly trying to figure out ways where I could hide my most vulnerable scars, hence why I say it’s personal. The reason being why I didn’t know it would be something I would make a career out of is because I thought I had it all. I was the girl in my family who graduated from St. John’s top of my class back in 2017 to now being the girl in my family who lost everything with in 2022 all while being a mom to a 3 yr old. So what do you do when you’ve hit rock bottom? I knew it was time for me to reinvent myself so I reflected on younger me and asked myself what she would have needed or wanted. I wanted to be someone that could make other people feel less insecure or confident in their skins purest form. I enrolled myself into esthetics school January 2023 and gave it my all ! Once I graduated I immediately started touring spaces for my skin bar. In November of 2023 I signed the lease to my suite and started the work on one of my greatest gifts to myself, for myself. Pure Skn Aesthetics opened loud and proud in the beginning of the year and has been thriving ever since. I service both women and men for customized facial treatments.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
With Pure Skn Aesthetics only being open for 8 months I would be lying if I was to sit here and say that I haven’t faced setbacks or even discouragement at times. For me it seemed that business was going great when I first launched, I received so much love, excitement and just overall support. I was booked and busy for about my first 3/4 months. When the spring / summer season started everything just stopped in the blink of an eye and I immediately felt like my business would be an epic fail. I even stopped promoting on social media as much. I was in my head really bad but I could not go back to rock bottom. I realized the more I promoted myself and not just the brand itself, business was picking back up. It’s not consistent how I would want but this is only my first year open. Great things take time and nurture to grow.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pure Skn Aesthetics?
Pure Skn Aesthetics is a skin bar. We specialize in customized facial treatments and Acne prone skin. We believe everyone’s skin is beautiful in its purest form. We offer everything from High Frequency treatments to Microdermabrasion. Although a lot of other spas in the area offer the same services, our unique skills and being able to customize your own treatment sets us aside from them all. We listen and we understand your skins end goal, we don’t have just generic treatments fit for everybody’s skin because we know everybody’s skin and hormones are different. Owning a brand that identifies scars and imperfections as strengths and not weaknesses gives my clients a chance to regain strength and confidence in their truest form, That’s what makes me most proud.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
If my mom were to answer this she would say I was the sweetest little girl that always wanted to get dressed and wear shoes never sneakers lol. Growing up I lived in a 2 parent household which where I’m from is like a badge of honor. I have 2 sisters and a brother and we are very close. I never told them this but they made my childhood and being a big sister soooo much fun. I can say I was always outgoing and an honor student. I was enrolled in dance school early and didn’t stop till I graduated in 12th grade. Believe it or not I had dreams of attending Julliard school of dance. I always had deep love for music so concerts played a huge role as one of my favorite activities to do. ( Still is lol ) I was a huge B2K fan until Chris brown came and stole my heart…hehe..
