Exploring Life & Business with Kasim Idrees of Employment Law Assist, APC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasim Idrees

Hi Kasim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I think my story is pretty unique. I was the kid who couldn’t decide what to do, so I did everything. Investment banking, commercial banking, private equity, start-ups, restaurants… you name it. If I was interested, I was invested. This forced me to undergo an interesting journey through grad school and post-grad that ultimately led me to find my purpose in life. I started in mergers and acquisitions during law school, which transitioned into practicing law in that field once I passed the bar. I thought this was the pinnacle of being a lawyer. However, I quickly realized that the Wall Street dream wasn’t for me. While I was looking for a career change, I came across an opportunity to buy into my family business: pizza restaurants. Without hesitation, I went from closing corporate deals to serving pizzas, and became the largest franchisee for the oldest pizza chain in the world.

With over 100 employees, employment law was something I needed to learn to prevent issues with my businesses. This is where I learned that many businesses spend their efforts to cover-up liability than prevent it. As a result, many employees go through serious hardship as a result of businesses prioritizing profits over people. Within a few short months of becoming a business owner, I already began opening a law firm to represent employees against business owners.

Over the last few years, we have gone from a small solo practice to a full-service law firm with over 25 employees. We’ve built a reputation of building every case, no matter it’s size, as if it’s the only case we have. My team and I are aggressive, and we use this to find justice for our clients by ensuring that no stone goes unturned. We are passionate about what we do and it shows because that passion is driven by purpose.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing good comes easy. While we’ve been fortunate to have many clients since opening our doors, our dreams were larger than our capabilities. We wanted to service everyone and anyone that we can. As a result, I was spending 16 hour days, 7 days each week in the office. I wasn’t alone either. We were constantly worried about doing more for our clients and that concern still lives on today.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Employment Law Assist exclusively represents employees against their employers and we do it effectively. Our clients are constantly surprised by the level of detail, grit and fire we put into every case simply because we don’t give up. We pride ourselves on taking the time to understand our client’s concerns and pursuing every avenue possible to get our clients the compensation they deserve. This shows in our results.

How do you define success?
I relate success to prosperity, happiness and purpose. Success to me is thinking of a plan, executing the plan and doing everything you can to be the best at doing performing the plan. However, the plan needs to be the right plan for you, not the plan that’s worked for others. This should allow you to find ownership in this plan so that your execution is exciting, development is exciting, and the journey itself isn’t measured. Eventually, you will be living the best version of yourself through a plan that you wouldn’t trade the world for. I don’t think there is any better way for me to define success.
