Exploring Life & Business with Josephine Armas of Typsy Sugar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josephine Armas.

Hi Josephine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was referred by my college friend Karin. I am a licensed esthetician and I specialize in eyelash extensions.

I joined my first eyelash course in 2017 but I didn’t actually go to school and get licensed until 2019. It was a lot of on and off with lashing, but it really took me two years to take this skill serious and make it a full-time career.

I started off by doing a couple of clients every day at my mom’s apartment, to renting an office in Inglewood as my first lash studio, and now having two different locations in Los Angeles.

All in these past two years of consistent practice and hard work.

I now focus on offering beginner training classes to teach girls the confidence on starting their very own business as an eyelash tech.

I’m actually having a grand opening for my new location opening in Carson!

My own storefront! I do plan to continue growing personally and as a business as well.

Thank you so much for reading about my story!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being an eyelash tech did come with a lot of discouragement, especially as a beginner. I’m originally from Iowa and moved to LA in 2016 so I had to build my relationships with my clientele from the bottom.

Once I acquired the confidence it takes to be your own boss, I was definitely willing to do whatever it takes.

Working longer hours than a regular job, overbooking appointments leaving minimal time for myself, it’s all a part of the process.

We’ve been impressed with Typsy Sugar LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Typsy Sugar is my esthetician business and we focus on eyelash extensions. I have a new storefront location that just opened in Carson, with a few girls on my team. We offer professional eyelash extensions, beginner training classes, as well as sell eyelashes extension supplies in store and online.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was raised by my mother and father in Iowa! My father was always an entrepreneur and I remember his business expanding from scratch growing up, and it just always gave me the hope that one day I could do it on my own as well. I also saw the insider’s view from a successful adult and saw how much time and effort you actually had to put it to be successful as all. I now have a strong work ethic and even though I never finished college, I currently love my career.

Pricing:

  • $150 for a fullset of eyelash extensions
  • $1500 for a private beginner training
