Exploring Life & Business with Joseph Yomtoubian of The Tinder Blog Corp.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Yomtoubian

Hi Joseph, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey into social media back in 2014 while pursuing my MBA. At that time, the concept of influencers didn’t exist—people were simply sharing their pictures and memories on Instagram. One day, bored in class, I decided to channel my creativity and humor into something new: making memes. I had no idea what I was doing or why I was doing it, other than for fun. That’s when I started @thetinderblog, which has since grown to over 4 million followers. Along the way, I created other successful pages like @spectacular (4.1M) and @circleofidiots (2.9M), among 20 others.

After earning my MBA, I worked as a Management Consultant at Ernst & Young, providing finance and strategy consulting for Fortune 500 companies, all while maintaining my side business and launching new channels. As my social media business grew, I made the decision to leave consulting in June 2023 to focus on it full-time. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with major companies such as Coca-Cola, Amazon Prime, McDonald’s, and Bud Light, to name a few.

What started as a joke has turned into a real business, and I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to be where I am today. I truly mean this.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, it has been pretty smooth, I have had some scares such as one of my large pages not working, but overall, I have good people around me that have helped support me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m proud of the network I’ve built, which now spans over 40 million followers. I never intended to grow this big, and I don’t see it as a representation of who I am or my value, unlike many others. It’s just a number, but it’s one that I’m proud to have entertained—anonymously—across various channels and themes. Aka the secret influencer.

Most recently, I launched a page called @workmemesoffical (misspelled intentionally), where I create memes about work life and the struggles of being in a job where you’re not appreciated.

It’s important to note that the content I create and post isn’t necessarily a reflection of my personal humor or beliefs. I focus on what I think people will enjoy. I avoid sharing anything controversial or political because I want my pages to be an escape from the real world—a place where people can get lost in humor.

Additionally, I try to showcase the better side of humanity through @dailyhappystories, a page dedicated to sharing positive and wholesome stories. My goal is to remind people that while the bad often gets the spotlight, there’s a lot of good in the world—it just doesn’t get shared as often.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
My work was impacted by covid like many others, but it did help elevate it. It showed brands that digitally marketing on meme pages is a big opportunity that they did not know about nor would have normally explored. Now we work with 4 of the Fortune 100 companies, which came to me during Covid times.
