Exploring Life & Business with Jesse Turner of Father Figure Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Turner.

Hi Jesse, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
It started with me joining the Marine Corps right out of high school. I graduated from Oceanside High School and then spent ten years in the Marine Corps stationed mainly on Camp Pendleton. I was an Infantry Machine gunner by trade and did two combat tours to Afghanistan. During this time, I sustained one training and one combat injury which resulted in me getting my spine fused in 2015.

Nine months later and while still recovering I was hit by a truck on my motorcycle in a near-fatal accident and suffered many more injuries. Prior to getting the spine done, I got certified as a personal trainer so that I could help with my own recovery. This allowed me to be effective following the motorcycle accident as well. Since I was naturally good at this, and my time was coming to an end in the Marine Corps due to the injuries, I decided to go to school to study physical therapy upon my end of service in 2016.

I got my Bachelors in Kinesiology Allied Health (Pre-Physical Therapy) and since have spent my time as a full-time personal trainer in the Inland Empire (Redlands, CA). My current specialties are in strength training, corrective exercise, performance enhancement, nutrition, and MMA conditioning. My Son was born on my birthday in 2015 and is currently 6 years old. He has been in and around the fitness lifestyle since he was 2 and has become to have a passion for it. He also likes to help coach and lead workouts on occasion.

My social media platforms and be primarily are for the use of health, fitness, and fatherhood and since have become well known for just that. The majority of my engagement comes from my days of being a Dad. With all of this becoming very much of my life’s purpose I have recently created an online clothing company that is comprised of athleisure wear and accessories for men, women, and children with the foundation of being active and fit parents, especially dads.

I use my creativity, strength, and gift of mental toughness to help inspire others through health, fitness, and parenthood.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been far from smooth as it took me a spinal fusion and motorcycle accident that I shouldn’t have survived to get me to this life’s path, to begin with. Along the way, the struggles of recovery, parenting, transitioning out of the military, and school became a major challenge.

I then made a rushed decision to purchase a gym which became a failure due to bad partnerships. The struggle of entrepreneurship is no secrecy as every day is different and trying to create a new business is always frustrating.

Keeping up with new ideas, trial, and error in marketing, managing multiple entities of social media while simultaneously trying not to get sucked up in work that distracts me from my most important job and that is being a father.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Father Figure Fitness, LLC is a business that I created that encompasses both my Private Personal Training along with my Athleisure clothing brand for men, women, and children. I currently have 37 active clients that range from group to one-on-one training and specialize in strength, post-partum, weight-loss, corrective exercise/rehabilitation, and kickboxing/MMA.

All of my clients and training experiences help drive the creativity of my clothing line. Some items are sleek and stylish for daily wear while others are performance-based for inside the gym. Creativity and a purposeful focus on fit parents are what sets me apart from other brands alike. In this generation, it is no new news that fathers being absent is a common thing.

Many adults struggle from the residual effects of this fact I take the utmost pride in being a good father with a healthy co-parent relationship with my son’s mother and it has become something for others to emulate.

What matters most to you? Why?
My son above all matters to me the most. I’ve experienced a lot of hardship in my life and have learned many lessons along the way.

I’ve also seen what roles an upbringing and hardship can have on someone’s level of success or lack there off in business and relationships. It is my main goal in life to pass that down to my son to prevent those possible experiences and better set him up for success regardless of the ceiling that I may reach.

I continue to learn and grow myself and set the example for him to gather from on his journey and so far, he shows that he’s paying close attention and retaining it well. He’s the kind of man at 6 that took me 30 years to figure out.
