Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Simone.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up as the only child, I was always between Portland and Pasadena. I became a teen mother at the age of 15 and my friends and family all thought my life was ruined. I told myself that I was not going to be another statistic and drop out of high school/college or give up on my dreams because I had a baby, I got my first job at 15 working as a cart clerk at the local grocery store. My parents still living in different states, were very disappointed in me, but I still received the emotional support that I needed. I always admired my father’s drive as an entrepreneur and always found myself to possess those same qualities. In 2010, I decided to move my son and I out to California for a fresh start. Portland was always going to be home, but I felt as though I wouldn’t live the life I always dreamed of and that was to one day to be an entrepreneur. I graduated College in 2014 and worked as a Behavioral Therapist for a few years later. I loved my job, but I didn’t feel that I was serving my purpose. One day I called my mother and told her that I was going to quit and take a leap of faith and start my career as a lash artist. I got a notebook and started writing out a business plan. From my business name all the way down to the exact amount of money I’d need to startup. I took the lash course and turned my loft at my home into a lash room. I offered tips only for new sets to strengthen my skills and then My clientele started to pick up. One day a friend of mine told me that I needed my license as an esthetician or cosmetologist to further my career as a lash artist. Shortly, I enrolled into beauty school. At orientation, the directors had each prospective student write a letter to self, predicting what we were going to be doing once we graduated school. In my letter, I stated that I would open a salon and my business would be successful. Fast forward, I graduated and obtained my Esthetician license and I own Beauté by J. Simone located Downtown Ontario. A lot of my drive and ambition comes from me having to grow up early and prove to myself that anything is possible. Almost a year later, I am proud to say that I will be opening my second location on Los Angeles.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. In fact, I took several Losses.
My father passed away, and I’m still so hurt because I wish he were here to see how far I’ve come and where I’m headed next.
Shortly after I graduated from school, I rented out a salon suite in south Pasadena. Things were rocky because it was a new location and I had to start building new clientele. I wasn’t able to upkeep the payments of the suite because my clientele wasn’t coming in the way I thought it would and that’s when one day, I sat myself down to regroup. During the time of my failed business, I was going through a divorce. My children and I became homeless and we had to stay with family for 90 days while I got myself back on my feet. During those 90 days, I started working at a lash studio in Glendora. I loved it, but I still knew that working for someone else was not my calling. March 2020, 4 months into working at the lash studio, Covid-19 happened. I was back to square one; jobless. I brainstormed some ideas and turned them into my reality. I launched my online skincare business with the skincare products that I made in my kitchen and that’s what helped me push for a storefront.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Beauté by J. Simone is a full-service beauty salon. I offer luxury eyelash extensions, full body waxing, brow tinting, facials, organic skincare products and brow lamination. I am known for my eyelash extensions, personality. and my skincare oil. Coming to my salon is a vibe in itself. The playlist on the music is always right, my clients come into a welcoming clean atmosphere and I make sure that I build a rapport with each of my clients. A lot of my clients and I have lash therapy sessions and I enjoy that because you never know who is in need of a listening ear. I am able to be myself and I think that’s what draws customers to me. I believe since I was a therapist before, it makes my job a lot easier at making my clients feel at ease.
I am most proud of my brand because it suites the needs of everyone. I am so versatile that even men enjoy my services.
I am always striving to be my best and give the best customer service to my clients, and with my brand expanding, I am excited to be opening a 2nd location soon.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
What I always tell people that are starting out is to be patient write out a plan. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen for those that are hungry for it. What I mean by that is, once you write something down, you get to visualize it, once it’s in your face, you began to believe it which allows you to manifest it, and then that’s when you put forth the effort and hardwork to make it become your reality. Also, don’t compare yourself to others. What is for you will be for you. God gives us purpose and it’s up to us to fulfill it. No matter how long it takes you to accomplish your goal, it’s always obtainable.
I wish I knew then, not rush the process and it’s all about timing. If it’s not our time, then it’s not going to happen.
