Today we’d like to introduce you to HASMIG BOYAJIAN.
Hi HASMIG, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always believed that the most powerful way to connect with people is through shared experiences that delight the senses — great food, warm company, and joyful celebration. That belief has been the driving force behind my career in event planning.
My journey began with a strong foundation in hospitality. I earned my degree from The Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona, one of the top programs in the country. There, I gained not just academic knowledge but hands-on experience that taught me the importance of precision, professionalism, and thoughtful details — all of which have shaped the way I plan every event. Following my Bachelor’s Degree, I also obtained my Corporate Event Planning Certification through the Extended University Program at Cal Poly Pomona.
Over the course of my career, I’ve planned over 1,000 events, from multi-day corporate functions to meaningful charity galas and elegant weddings. I’m driven by a passion for creating moments that bring people together, and I truly believe that when we gather — for business, celebration, or community — we create powerful, lasting connections. I won’t work long hours for something I don’t love, and event planning remains one of the few things that energizes me and fuels my creativity.
As a professionally trained chef and lifelong lover of food, whiskey, wine, and entertaining, I bring a unique culinary perspective to my work. When I get to collaborate with “foodie” clients, it’s a dream — because I know how much joy a thoughtful menu and sensory-driven experience can bring to guests.
Giving back has always been a fundamental part of my journey. I’ve had the privilege of working with several organizations dedicated to supporting young military veterans as they transition from challenging life circumstances to empowered, purpose-driven futures. Being able to use my skills and platform to create meaningful change is something I deeply value. I regularly receive personal updates from veterans I’ve mentored or inspired, and knowing I’ve made a lasting, positive impact on their lives is one of the greatest rewards I could ask for.
Looking ahead, my company is focusing exclusively on corporate and social events. We’re a boutique firm, primarily referral-based, and we take pride in maintaining a private client list. Our team has worked with senior executives, renowned universities, and major organizations, and we specialize in crafting bespoke experiences that leave lasting impressions. Whether it’s a client appreciation dinner or a large-scale corporate retreat, our goal is to elevate the guest experience while respecting the discretion and vision of each client.
At the end of the day, I wake up with gratitude for the work I get to do. I’m excited about the future, and always looking forward to the next celebration. You never need a reason to celebrate, so let’s start planning!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any road worth taking is ever truly smooth, and being a business owner is no exception. Every day brings new challenges, new decisions, and new opportunities to grow. There are always moving parts, competing forces, and unexpected variables, especially in the world of events where no two days are alike.
That said, I’ve always viewed these challenges as part of the journey. Each one has been an opportunity to sharpen my skills, discover my strengths, and confront my weaknesses. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have mentors from all walks of life who have guided me with wisdom, honesty, and encouragement. Their insight — paired with my own commitment to continued learning, education, and observation — has helped shape the way I lead and grow my business.
Planning events requires precision, practice, and preparation — but even with the best-laid plans, something will always test your adaptability. What’s made the difference for me is staying grounded, staying observant, and learning from every experience. I’ve taken something valuable from every challenge and used it to build resilience, deepen my understanding, and deliver even better outcomes for my clients. My journey hasn’t been without its bumps, but it’s made me stronger, more grateful, and more committed than ever to creating unforgettable experiences with heart and excellence.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My company, PLANiT LA, is a full-service event planning firm specializing in both corporate and social events — from leadership retreats and team-building experiences to milestone celebrations and client appreciation events. We’re known for designing elevated, highly personalized experiences that capture the heart, vision, and mission of every client we serve.
What sets us apart is our approach: no two events are ever the same. For our repeat clients, we build on past successes — always improving, always evolving, and always pushing for smarter, more impactful results. Each project is approached with fresh eyes, creative intention, and a genuine desire to deliver something unexpected — even in the most traditional environments. We thrive on turning ordinary gatherings into immersive, memorable experiences.
At our core, we are colorful, passionate, and deeply invested in our clients. We take the time to truly understand their brand, values, and personality — because we don’t just plan events, we help our clients shine. Every detail is considered, every moment is curated, and we are there throughout the process to ensure clarity, confidence, and creativity.
As a boutique, referral-based firm, we are proud of the trust we’ve earned. Our portfolio includes top-tier universities, senior executives, and distinguished organizations — yet we treat every event, no matter the size, with the same level of care and enthusiasm. Whether it’s an intimate dinner or a large-scale retreat, PLANiT LA is here to craft a one-of-a-kind experience that leaves a lasting impression.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people know me as an event planner — creative, organized, and always thinking five steps ahead. But what often surprises them is that I’ve worked in just about every corner of the hospitality world. From back-of-house operations to front-of-house finesse, I’ve developed a deep, hands-on understanding of what it truly takes to turn an event into an unforgettable experience.
I’m also a professionally trained chef, which means menu curation and culinary storytelling are second nature to me. Whether my clients are die-hard foodies or just love a great meal, I believe the secret ingredient to a successful event is a happy belly. (I’m kidding… but not really.) Sharing a meal is about more than just feeding guests — it’s about evoking emotion, engaging the senses, and creating moments of nostalgia. I don’t just think about timelines and aesthetics; I think about flavors, textures, presentation, and how food becomes a centerpiece of connection. When I get to collaborate with clients who care about those details too, it’s pure magic.
Another fun fact? I’m incredibly observant. I notice the little things — energy shifts, body language, even unspoken preferences — and I use that insight to tailor each event and anticipate what my clients need before they even ask. That level of awareness is what makes the experience feel seamless and personal.
