Exploring Life & Business with Emily Luxford of Luxford Nutrition

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Luxford

Hi Emily, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been where you are now.

This is my story.

I still remember the day the pain started. My family and I went to dinner at a local restaurant. I ordered my usual cheeseburger but I couldn’t eat it. The pain hit me as my plate was delivered. I sat there, staring at my cheeseburger, hunched over and silent. This was just the beginning. I was only 5 years old.

I suffered for 12 years before I was diagnosed with my first autoimmune disease. The first diagnosis had no cure. Four years later, I was diagnosed with my second autoimmune disease. Lucky for me, this disease had a treatment. But, the treatment didn’t alleviate all my symptoms.

By this time, I was an expert at living daily with a multitude of symptoms. My personal experiences shaped who I am today: my compassion, my determination and my career. After becoming a dietitian nutritionist, I realized I had another treatment option. I could use whole food-as-medicine to reverse my symptoms.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Living with health challenges can be a rollercoaster. There are times when the symptoms are severe and there can be periods where you find relief. Unlike other conditions, autoimmune diseases and gastrointestinal disorders are often ignored or misunderstood. This is largely because they do not always present with external manifestations. On the outside, you may look healthy while you feel like you are struggling internally.

This is similar to running a business. There are highs and lows. Perseverance is my main driver for my success as an individual and as a business owner. My biggest challenges were transitioning from part time to full time, changing locations and managing a business while raising children. With each curve ball, you adjust your business model to meet the demands of that particular hurdle. To me, this is the greatest gift and challenge of running your own business.

We’ve been impressed with Luxford Nutrition, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
