E. Braun & Co. opened its doors in Vienna in 1893 as a purveyor of ready-to-wear clothing and fine linen. The founder’s grandson, Gustav Oser, and his mother moved to New York City in 1943 and together opened a Madison Avenue location that would quickly come to be considered a world-renowned landmark for fine linens. (The firm was purchased originally by Liz with her cousin and his wife, Stephanie and Ric Barbatelli). The firm has continued to revitalize itself under Barbatelli’s ownership over the past 40 years, combining its rich, storied heritage with a distinctly modern viewpoint, providing the same unrivaled standards of quality and service familiar to generations of New Yorkers at its West Hollywood address.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Liz’s raison d’être is the pursuit of a beautifully functioning home and cultivating extraordinary living experiences in the-every-day.

The principal challenge and goal are to have fine linens and luxurious home accessories be at the recognized forefront of the design process and be expansively sought after as the go-to firm for fine linens, luxurious home accessories and exceptional styling services.

The belief that fine linens are the foundation of a truly luxurious lifestyle. Far beyond aesthetics, they are literally the connecting thread from the heart of the home throughout every space of experience. She aims to bring a customized vision of a sustainable and sensual beauty to life for each client, one that is wholly unique to their home and experience.

Projects begin by allowing Liz, and her skilled team, to thoroughly review the overall design aesthetic, materials, measurements, and sensibilities, whether it be for a yacht, aircraft, or home. Then they carefully navigate the marketplace to design and curate a custom edit of made-to-measure textiles and entire linen and accessory programs that complement the design of the luxury residence while holistically elevating the day-to-day living experience. Projects range from new builds to mid-design and refurbishments, and each involves extensive presentation of design concepts and selections that bring the ultimate vision to life.
