Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Christina Mishreki, DC, CCSP® of Athletic Kinection – Sports Medicine Specialists

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Christina Mishreki, DC, CCSP®.

Dr. Christina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was an athlete my entire life. Basketball being my first love, I didnt know where it would take me but I knew I wanted to do anything and everything to find out. Unfortunately, a bad knee injury ended my PLAYING career and the ripe age of 17. Obviously devastated that I had to give up my first love, I didnt necessarily let it stop me from being around the sport I loved so much. I used it as motivation to figure out how to turn it into something I could do for a lifetime. I always say “my injury may have ended my playing career, but it pointed me in the direction of my forever career”. I knew at 17 that working in Sports Medicine was what I had to do. I wanted to figure out how to help other athletes prevent the same thing from happening to them. So, I went to college. I got my Bachelor’s in Kinesiology from Cal State Long Beach in May, 2019 then went right into getting my Doctorate in Chiropractic, starting Fall 2019. I chose Chiropractic simply due to to the fact that it allowed me the freedom to see patients from start to finish. I love the challenge of being able to diagnose an injury, treat it, maintain it and see it through. I love being able to see my patients get back on the court, or on the field, because I was able to help them. I specialized in Sports Medicine and Injury Prevention to help others avoid having a similar story to mine. In late 2023, I ended up officially specializing in Sports Medicine, becoming a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP®). I was trained in injury prevention, emergency procedures, and so much more to be able to be the Doctor I wish I had when I was 17, with big dreams. Now, I have officially opened my own office in Long Beach, I run the medical team for a Pro-Am basketball league in the city (Shoutout to The Mecca League), I get to treat patients who range from high school athletes to professional athletes across every league possible, to the more seasoned “athletes” who just want to stay healthy no matter how old they are. I’m living my dreams everyday.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There was nothing smooth about the journey I’ve had to get to where I am today. There has been plenty of blood, sweat and tears along the way. I started my business in March, 2025, almost a whole year earlier than I thought I would. Working out of a 110 sq.ft. room, I thought I made a huge mistake. Then, was blessed enough to find a store front in July, 2025 that would eventually become my new home. I spent a month, with the help of my AMAZING friends and family, remodeling this new space and turning it into what Athletic Kinection is today. September 1st, 2025, my vision had officially come to life and opened its doors to properly help treat the city that raised me. Without my friends and family helping me through grad school and the early stages of my career, to literally helping me BUILD this business and bring my dreams to life, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

We’ve been impressed with Athletic Kinection – Sports Medicine Specialists, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Athletic Kinection is a Chiropractic, Sports Rehabilitation clinic where we specialize in everything from Injury Prevention to Chiropractic/Myofascial Release and Functional Rehab. We pride ourselves in helping athletes of all ages and skill levels, as well as the general population who just wants to take control of their health. We always say “You don’t have to be a professional athlete to receive a professional athlete level of care”. At AK, we are best known for a fun, welcoming environment where you feel like family the second you walk in the door. This isn’t your regular, boring, stuffy doctor’s office. At AK, we offer Myofascial Release, Chiropractic Adjustments, Cupping and Scraping therapies, as well as Compression boots you can enjoy while watching your favorite team play on our TV. Our goal is to make this place feel like a place you are excited to come to. We want you to look forward to coming to your appointments. We love having our patients in the office, so we want that to be a mutual feeling!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my faith in God, my amazing family and my beautiful friends. My Mom has been my biggest supporter since the beginning. She taught me to be the strong, hard working person I am today. My sister, who is also a Chiropractor (specializing in pregnant women and babies!), who never failed to be my biggest fan growing up. My best friend, Monica, who stayed up every late night with me helping me study for every exam while in grad school. My Uncle Mike, who is the absolute reason I was able to play “Bob the Builder”, bringing this main office to life. I’ve also had the pleasure of learning from many different mentors, who have taught me everything I know today.
