Today we’d like to introduce you to David Sanders.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My working career began in New York City in 1995, while I was studying for the graduate certification program in Culinary Arts at Peter Kump’s School of Culinary Arts on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. I was the assist Corporate Chef at Flavors Catering and Carry Out in the heart of Chelsea. It was the opportunity of a lifetime to be able to hone and sharpen my culinary skills at such a world renown restaurant of that time period. This experience shaped me with consistency, discipline and a skill set I still use to this day.
With a life-long interest in interior design and architecture, I began taking on private interior design clients and within a few short months I realized I had found my true calling. It has been the dream we all dream of, actualizing and bringing your hopes, goals and expectations to life!! I am so blessed and humbled by the opportunities that we get to create for others, and in turn we are creating opportunities and magic for ourselves.
Today, I am expanding the company with an office in Atlanta, Ga., and also have begun pre-production on a TV show that will be filmed in Italy, and will be a resource that gives people a life changing experience. We aim to change the perspective of others by taking them completely out of their environment. We will change lives with an all inclusive approach to healing the entire individual. Through this journey, they will be able to explore an abundance of possibilities in front of them.
David Brian Sanders resides in Los Angeles and his work has been published in RENOVATION STYLE, TRADITIONAL HOME, The New York Daily News, The Washington Post, Angelino Magazine and THE LOS ANGELES TIMES. He has also appeared on several national television shows including Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker as the resident interior designer, HGTV’S House Hunters Renovation, Sundance’s The Lazy Environmentalist, and a special Home Makeover edition of Fox’s America’s Most Wanted. Additionally, he was a series regular as Host and Judge on FYI’s House Vs. House.
His candle line DAVID BRIAN SANDERS PRIVATE COLLECTION is available at specialty retailers nationwide, and on his website, davidbriansanders.com.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Over the span of the 25 years in my design career, there have been many ups and downs. I look at the downs as learning opportunities to improve where my weaknesses may lie. I have been able to build a team, both in Los Angeles and Atlanta, who have been able to provide the team support in the areas where it is needed most in our design studio.
The biggest challenge for our team has been to navigate the expressive and colorful personalities of our clientele. We like to provide efficient and effective customer service at each and every turn, which is why we are so fortunate and blessed to have our clients who continue to come back to us on a repeated basis.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The design studio was founded in 1998 after managing the high-end textile company Peacock Alley Luxury Linens of Dallas, Texas. The company was born out of the idea that we could do more than provide luxury linens to the community at large and beyond. Having the foundation in textile design was a beautiful bridge to beginning a career in interior design and residential development.
David Brian Sanders Interior Design specializes in classic modernism, peppered with vintage finds and coupled with the custom design pieces from his own collections, as well as the showrooms he’s built relationships with over the last 25 years.
We are extremely proud of the fact that most of our clients are repeat clients. Additionally, we are extremely proud of the fact that we have created an avenue to the television community in the home space, and we are very excited for a forthcoming project that marries mental wellness, art, architecture, food, and fashion.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We see the industry shifting to a much more saturated online presence in the next 5-10 years. The end-user has more access to design and bring their homes to life more so now than ever before due to the fact that retailers and trade partners are opening their doors to the public.
