Exploring Life & Business with Brittany Wise of Floor 27 Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Wise.

Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been a Professional Makeup Artist for eight years in Los Angeles. I am originally born and raised in the Bay Area. My journey began at the age of 12, I knew at a young age I wanted to become a Makeup Artist. I always been obsessed with colors, drawing, blending, and being artistically creative growing up. Before makeup, I went to college to study to become a Fashion Designer and Fashion Illustration Artist at Woodbury University. I studied all four years and received my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. After graduation, I had a tough time finding a job in the fashion industry. I knew I wanted a career in beauty and fashion but didn’t have any experience in the industry. One day I walked through the mall a Beauty Advisor came up to me and ask me, “You want to get into makeup?” with excitement I said, “yes!”, the rest was history. Urban Decay Cosmetics was my very first job in makeup. I started at Urban Decay with no makeup experience. I was working for the company for a couple of years and I learned to do makeup on different faces every day. I became a master at my craft and the reputation of my artistry was taking notice. The highlight of my career was being the key makeup artist for Lady Gaga Haus Laboratories’ launch event. Ever since that event doors were opening for me with opportunities and taking notice of my artistry. The clientele of celebrities I have done makeup with are Lady Gaga, Kathy Hilton, Ashely Everett, Callie Reiff, and Margie Plus. Throughout the years my work has been featured in Pump Magazine, Lady Gunn Magazine, Wendy Williams Show, Alphine Butterfly, CNN, and Political Playbook.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At the beginning of my career as a makeup artist. I went through many struggles such as not being rebooked, my work being too glammed, lacking self-confidence, and clients not liking my work at times. I conquered those challenges by taking constructive criticism from my peers and learning from my mistakes. What helped me through those rough times was by staying positive and being true to myself. I would take master classes once a month to learn the newest techniques in makeup, Invest in my kit such as high-end products, ring light, chair and buying a new camera to caption the best images of my work for me to get booked for another project.

What were you like growing up?
I was an active kid growing up. I was free-spirited, creative, on the go and sporty. I was a kid who always be inspired to do something new every day My parents involved me in many activities growing up such as ice skating, track and field, dance, and drawing. They wanted my brother and I to be exposed to different activities growing up so we could find out what we liked. I fell in love with the sport ice skating. What attracted me to the sport was the glitz, glamor, and competitiveness. My mother put me in ice skating lessons at the age of six. I was serious about the sport and I became a full-time competitive ice skater. My parents couldn’t afford ice skating dresses so my mother sewn all of my dresses for every competition I enter. Watching my mother make my ice skating dress inspired me to take the arts seriously by involving in anything with fashion and beauty. My mother and brother are the biggest influences in my career of makeup they are both artists. Being a competitive ice skater for many years train me to be a persistent and resilient artist.
