Exploring Life & Business with Angela Channell of Euphoria Medspa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Channell

Hi Angela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Angela Channell. I am an entrepreneur, a passionate foodie, a creative soul, a proud queer Latina, and, above all, a person in recovery.

My family’s journey to the U.S. in the ’90s is deeply intertwined with my story. Leaving behind their established lives in Colombia, my mother and uncle pursued the American Dream. Watching my mother rebuild her life from scratch has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. She went from being a respected doctor in Colombia to cleaning houses and delivering newspapers in the U.S. Despite the obstacles, she never let anything stand in her way. She drove over two hours daily to study for her American Board exams at UCLA, all while learning English. Today, she runs her own successful Functional Medicine practice. Her tenacity fueled my drive, and whenever I’m asked what motivates me, the answer always comes back to her strength.

Growing up, I was a bit of a rebel, struggling to accept my identity as a queer woman. I spent my teens and twenties working alongside my mother in her medical practice, all while navigating the complexities of being a student, a major party girl, and a chef intern. Somehow, I managed to complete my degree in three years instead of four, but my path was anything but straightforward.

After college, I channeled my love for food into my Hungry.Latina Instagram account and eventually started the only Colombian food truck in L.A. My passion for food stems from my grandmother, the matriarch of our family. She expressed her love through her cooking and instilled in her children the values of determination, strength, integrity, and business acumen. Thanks to her, our family has thrived in the U.S.

Running my food truck opened doors I never imagined—being featured in the L.A. Times and Mashable, cooking for the cast of Jane the Virgin and You’re the Worst, working with E! and Disney Animation Studios, and even being part of the Sky Space L.A. opening with Snoop Dogg. The food truck world is gritty, full of long hours and endless prayers that your truck doesn’t break down.

Despite my successes, I began struggling more and more with alcohol. Eventually, I had to close my food truck, and I could no longer work for my mother. What started as a party-girl era in college spiraled into something dark, and the voice inside me that I had been trying to silence grew louder. I knew I had to face my truth, but I could not imagine doing it sober. It was an exhilarating time as I slowly became more comfortable with my sexuality, but also terrifying as my life was simultaneously spiraling out of control. Throughout it all, my mother never gave up on me, even when others thought she should.

I’m proud to say I’ve been sober for five years now, and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Sobriety saved my life, and I cherish it deeply. Rebuilding my life, embracing my true self, and taking things one day at a time have led me to a place of genuine fulfillment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I expanded my Hungry.Latina presence to TikTok, where I connected with a larger queer and sober community. This platform allowed me to share my foodie experiences, engage with a supportive network, and connect with inspiring brands like Dapper Boi, a queer clothing line. I was also honored to be known as a “sober lesbian of tiktok” by Intomore.com. Quarantine also brought me my fiancée—we spent every moment together, quickly fell in love, and haven’t been apart since.

As an entrepreneur with a bit of “entrepreneur ADHD,” I’m always on the lookout for new ventures, whether it’s launching podcasts or starting businesses. My latest endeavor, Euphoria Medspa. Alongside my incredible fiancée and mother, we’ve created a space where our passion for wellness and aesthetics comes to life. Euphoria is more than just a business; it’s the culmination of generations of hard work, determination, and resilience in our family. From my grandmother’s wisdom and strength to my mother’s relentless pursuit of her dreams, Euphoria represents the legacy of our family’s journey and dedication. Euphoria isn’t just a name; it’s a reflection of the joy, transformation, and purpose that define this new chapter of my life. It’s a place where people can find confidence and healing, just as I have found on my own journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Is it a smooth road? Not at all. But each struggle has shaped who I am today, and I wouldn’t trade my journey for anything. One of the biggest struggles I faced was my battle with alcohol and accepting my identity as a queer person which only intensified my reliance on alcohol. Eventually, it took over my life, leading to bottom after bottom.

Looking back it was a terrifying time—on one hand, I was slowly coming to terms with my sexuality, but on the other, my alcoholism was spiraling out of control. The consequences of my actions led to some hard lessons and painful consequences that will always be with me. There were moments when I felt completely lost, but those moments of incomprehensible demoralization ultimately led me to sobriety.

Sobriety hasn’t been easy, but it’s been the most rewarding part of my journey. It saved my life and allowed me to rebuild from the ground up. Every day is a new challenge, but it’s also an opportunity for growth.
