Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Spiegelman.
Hi allyson, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My frist job straight out of college I worked at MIRAMAX in NY as an assistant to the head of publicity. Very exciting time… I worked on PULP FICTION, TRAINSPOTTING, BASQUIAT and THE ENGLISH PATIENT to name a few. After a couple of years, I next went to work at William Morris Agency. It was there I learned that I loved making deals for my clients. I was involved in both press & music tours, tour sponsorships and most of all, I fell in love working with so many talented artists. One summer I was offered a position at Rubenstein PR to represent some major NY nightclubs. My most incredible moment was having PRINCE choose to play at one of my clubs. It was one of the most incredible nights of my life. After 9-11, things changed in NY, A good friend of mine had gotten a record deal with Lyor Cohen | Island Def Jam, and I was flying back and forth to LA with her to be apart of the studio process. From there, there was a group decision that I go on tour as tour manager and so I did. Long story short, after a year on the road, the label dropped her and many other artists. I needed to make a decision about going back to NY or staying in lA. As fate would have it, I was offered a job with Bill Silva Entertainment in LA. I managed a couple of indie bands and worked closely with Bill at the Hollywood Bowl, Also, an incredible time working at most incredible venue witnessing the best musicians play their hearts out. After 5 years, the music industry was changing and I was at a crossroads with what was going to make me happy. I took a drive to Big Sur for my birthday and on the way back the phone rang from my friend who was a celebrity hairdresser and asked if I would rep him and another celebrity hairdresser. They had opened their new salon and he thought I was the one who could put them on the map. From there, I started signing artists that I loved and that I wanted to hustle everyday for and just like that ASM was born!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Clearly life will always throw you curveballs. I feel that everything that happens to you is to make you learn and grow. It’s not easy when you’re in it. If you’re lucky, you will have good mentors and GREAT friendships and family to help guide you. When I moved to LA, it was not intentional. It was so scary! But when you lean in… the universe shows you the path. In recent years, with covid and the Hollywood strikes, then the fires.. panic sets in. What am I doing with my life? Should I stay in LA? Should I go back into an office working for other people and not stay and believe in myself to make my company stronger and grow.
I don’t think there’s one exact piece of advice I can offer except hang on for the ride… Try to balance work and play. Remove the vampires from your life. Exercise always clears my mind and call at least one or two people a day and have a great laugh, as life is short!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
