Exploring Life & Business with Alexandra Hawk of Alexdandra Hawk – Styles By Alexandra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Hawk

Hi Alexandra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

I began my journey in hairstyling 15 years ago as a way to blend creativity with the joy of making people feel beautiful and uplifted. Over time, I’ve realized hairstyling is more than just hair—it’s an art form and a deeper expression of self-care. Art has been part of my world since childhood, and moving from Cincinnati to LA opened doors I never expected. The beginning of my career in LA started almost 13 years ago on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica so it’s been like a home to me. I was introduced then and now, to influential mentors and opportunities that shaped my career to this day.
Today, I wear many hats on the hair side of my business – lead hairstyling for short films, video shoots, photoshoots, red carpet events, award shows, exclusive weddings, editorial features, traveling to other cities and more. At the heart of it all is my business at Framed Salon in Santa Monica, my home since 2018, where I continue to expand my offerings.

Currently, I’m focusing on traveling for elevated and luxury event styling, cleaner beauty, specialized haircuts, and educating stylists and clients on holistic hair and scalp care. Hairstyling can be surface-level or deeply transformative, and I choose to dive deeper—exploring how the hair and scalp reflects overall health and confidence. Our scalp health is often a reflection of our internal well-being. While I always defer to medical professionals for health advice, I believe hair is a powerful extension of our identity, confidence, energy, and well-being. Why not nourish it as we do the rest of our body?

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

As much as I’d love to say it’s been a smooth road, the best stories are rarely written that way. You win some, and sometimes you’re unexpectedly redirected. Starting out in LA was a challenge, but I was lucky to have a few key people who supported me from the very beginning. It took perseverance, trust, love, and dedication to grow into who I am today. Along the way, I’ve navigated shifts from Drybar to freelancing, booth rental, running my own business, and traveling for work. While I love the adventure, maintaining this pace as an artist requires constant effort—but the rewards make it all worthwhile.

My journey has also been shaped by my personal health, leading me toward a cleaner, holistic approach to haircare. After severe reactions to certain products in 2016/2017 and again more recently, I sought out safer alternatives, which ultimately refined the way I work. The pandemic brought its own set of shifts, pushing me to step away from most color and chemical services over time and focus on luxury experiences that prioritize well-being. Through every challenge, I’ve learned to adjust, grow, and specialize in a niche that fascinates me. My goal is always to ensure my clients leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and empowered.

I’m beyond grateful for my incredible clientele—many of whom continue to refer friends and family, even from out of town. In a city as vast as LA, I find a sense of home in these connections. Some clients return whenever they visit, while others book for loved ones coming into town, and I absolutely love that. I truly believe people cross paths for a reason.

The support from my family, friends, and industry peers has been invaluable. I owe so much to the deep connections I’ve made along the way and the incredibly talented artists I get to collaborate with. This journey has been anything but predictable, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Alexdandra Hawk – Styles By Alexandra?

I’m incredibly grateful and proud to have built a career by carving my own path that allows me to blend creativity, connection, and wellness. My work as a hairstylist goes beyond just hair—it’s about expression, confidence, and creating an experience that leaves clients feeling educated, refreshed, and uplifted. I am continuously learning and evolving my craft. Whether it’s a precision dry haircut tailored to someone’s unique style, a relaxing scalp therapy session, or an elevated styling experience for a wedding or event, my goal is always to provide something deeply personal and transformative. Despite challenges like industry shutdowns, economic shifts, and ever-evolving trends, I’ve not only sustained but grown my business into what it is today.

I specialize in lived-in, textured dry haircuts, elevated styling, and holistic scalp care. Through massage therapy techniques and specialized treatments, I help clients nurture not just their hair, but also their overall well-being. Scalp health is often overlooked, yet it plays a crucial role in how we feel and present ourselves. I enjoy educating both stylists and clients on how to build a scalp and hair care routine that supports long-term health and beauty. Can we all agree that a scalp massage feels heavenly? There’s a reason—it connects to meridians and tension relief, offering more than just relaxation.

I believe success is about balance—finding a rhythm between career and life. For me, nature is a constant source of inspiration. Whether I’m hiking or camping, being in the wilderness reminds me of the importance of flow and presence. I bring that same energy into my work, curating an experience that is both grounding and revitalizing for my clients. Ultimately, my goal is to offer more than just a service—I want each client to leave feeling confident, relaxed, and truly seen.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?

Reaching the top of a mountain or immersing myself in nature is the closest thing to pure calm and centering I’ve ever felt. There’s a deep sense of accomplishment in setting out on a journey—both in life and in the wilderness. When I’m surrounded by trees, I feel embraced and guided, as if the path ahead is unfolding exactly as it should. Most people know I love camping and hiking, often venturing solo across states, landscapes, and countries. What they may not know is that, while I appear fearless, I still feel nerves and uncertainty before each trip. My grounding rituals—daily practices, mapping a loose plan, pulling cards, and seeking guidance—help me step into the unknown with trust. It may sound wild to some, but it’s just how I roll.

Music is another deep passion. If the music speaks to me at a concert or DJ set, I could dance for hours, feeling every beat in my soul. Live music moves through me just as nature does—both are transformative.

My business is a reflection of my internal world and personal evolution. I follow my ‘yes’ and honor my ‘no’ more than ever. Meditation is a non-negotiable part of my daily practice. Sunsets at the beach are a ritual. And when nature calls, I answer—whether it’s a quick day trip or a week-long adventure. There’s something freeing about being fully present, especially when I hit ‘no signal’ and can just be.
