Exploring Life & Business with Aimée Janisch and Celine Witherell of sort it out LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimée Janisch and Celine Witherell.

Hi Aimée & Celine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We’re Chicago natives who met in high school and quickly became best friends. We bonded over a passion for organizing. While others spent their teenage years hanging out, we were knee-deep in our friends’ clutter. Most people thought it was a bit weird, but we were having the time of our lives.

After high school, life took us in different directions—Aimée to Los Angeles for a career in the music industry and Celine to Chicago’s nonprofit sector. Despite the distance, our love for organizing never waned. We continued to tidy up for fun, even in different cities.

Then, in 2023, Aimée made a life-changing call to Celine. “Listen, I want to start a home organizing company,” she said. “Move here. Let’s partner. You’re the only one for the job. It’s you and me. Let’s do this.”

Celine didn’t hesitate. Two months later, she packed her 2017 RAV-4 and drove across the country. Two days after arriving in LA, we formed an LLC, and sort it out was born.

Through hard work and networking, we quickly gained high-profile clients. Our confidence grew, as did our passion. We knew we were onto something special.

Giving back to the community is at the heart of sort it out. We always encourage clients to donate unused items and even make the donation center drop-offs ourselves. We also volunteer, most recently working with the National Pancreas Foundation at their annual gala, donating our organizing services to their auction.

Fast forward to today and we’re booking into the new year with a network of loyal clients built entirely through word-of-mouth. We partner with contractors, carpenters and local artists to offer a holistic, one-stop shop for all home refinement needs. We’re incredibly grateful for our journey and excited for what’s next.

We are sort it out!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our journey has been smooth because we’re able to recognize and work with each other’s differences. Aimée’s brain is like an Excel spreadsheet and Celine’s is more like a chalkboard. We complement each other’s strengths and communicate seamlessly. After 17 years of friendship, we basically have our own secret language.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are an organizing company that specializes in refining home, retail, office and storage spaces. We edit items and implement organizing systems that are unique to each client’s needs and lifestyle.

To make it easy to maintain an organized space, we ensure that all organizing systems are sustainable long-term. If you’re not going to be able to keep your books alphabetized, we’ll color-code them. If you’re color-blind or hate rainbows, we’ll find a system that makes you smile. If you don’t have time to decant your pasta into a glass container, we’ll keep it in the original box. We want it to make sense for you.

We’re not interested in pushing people to buy thousands of dollars of plastic bins or other products. If you’ve got your own, we’ll use it.

We also pack and unpack for moves and with our extensive network, we connect clients with florists, landscapers, carpenters and more.

You deserve to enter an orderly space with a clear mind.

Not only are we the best to do it we are also a good hang. Seriously.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We’ll tell you one place this industry isn’t going… into the robot hands of AI. It takes a human touch to curate a truly organized space.
