Today we’d like to introduce you to Debi Carlin Boyle.
Hi Debi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my company, “Fit By Design” over 25 years ago as a side hustle when I became a Spin Instructor and a Personal Trainer and realized no two people are alike when it comes to diet, exercise, and overall lifestyle. Much like snowflakes, we are unique human beings, we need to understand our individual responses to what we put into our bodies and how we treat them. I discovered at a very young age that lifestyle plays a vital role in how we look, feel, and react to everything that surrounds us. There are many things that feed us in life in addition to the food on our plate. As a young child, I watched as my family succumbed to cancers, heart disease, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases that left me feeling helpless and hopeless. I knew I did not want to go down this path for myself – or my future family. That is when my personal journey began from a processed kid towards wellness and when I truly realized that I could shift my family’s bad habits to good habits for a longer, healthier, and more joyous life.
In college, as I studied theater to become an actress, I also minored in Family Studies and Consumer Sciences while simultaneously changing my unhealthy childhood habits to healthy ones. I drastically altered my eating habits from processed foods to whole, fresh foods, such as vegetables, lean proteins, and good fats. I also started playing tennis and weight training which instantly yielded results; I slimmed down, I became more energetic, I eliminated my brain fog, and my hair and nails starting growing like crazy. I quickly started to attract everything I wanted in life simply by making my self-care my number one priority. The snowball effect of good self-care was undeniably present, and I knew if it could work for me, it could work for anyone. After 30 years as a Television Commercial Producer, mother, and wife, I decided it was time to take my knowledge of health and wellness and share it with others. I am now a full-time Health, Nutrition, and Fitness Coach, a Personal Trainer and Spin Instructor with my current company BalancedLife Connect to a Healthier You; helping others see results that are not just dramatic but lasting and sustainable for their continued healthy lifestyles.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have to admit it has not been an easy road. I decided to reinvent myself at the age of 57 and go back to school at the same time as I was going through a contentious divorce after a 35 year relationship. At this point, I had two grown daughters in their twenties trying to start their careers and navigate their future, I wanted to be there for them as much as I could but juggling school and my determination to expand my business, I felt I was not as helpful as I could have been. My challenge was also my age, approaching 60 when many of my friends were winding down their careers, I was just winding up. I knew my success would depend on consistency, passion, hard work and determination beyond what someone 20, 30 years younger would have to do. So to work I went, to create a thriving business where I can share my passion for health and longevity for others to benefit as well.
We’ve been impressed with BalancedLife by Debi, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Personal Trainer, I am an advocate for living an energized and passionate life. I work with my clients to help them create happy, healthy lives in a way that is flexible, fun, and free of denial and discipline. By working together, I help my clients discover the food and lifestyle choices that best support them. Making gradual, lifelong changes enables them to reach their current and future health goals. It’s rare for people to get personalized time and the full attention of a busy health practitioner, especially during this current COVID crisis. I take the time to listen to each unique situation and provide small action steps that are individualized for each client to create new habits toward a sustainable future. I am known for helping people reach their personal goals through a supportive environment while exploring what really works for them.
As a Health Coach, I help my clients transform their body from the inside out. I help them set and accomplish goals as they explore new foods, reduce cravings, increase energy, improve their relationships, and over-all feel better in their body. I take them on supermarket tours, provide pantry and refrigerator makeovers, cooking classes along with my own recipe guide. All can be done virtually. I also provide email support and personal care products toward better self-care.
Working out with a Personal Trainer is one of the most efficient ways of achieving cardiovascular improvement, lean muscle mass, and maximum strength. Together with my clients, I customize a program that suits their time, money, and goals. At the moment, all sessions are virtual, my clients range from age 17 to 85. As a Spin Instructor currently teaching at Dig Cycle in Calabasas I take my class through high intensity intervals, road climbs, jumps and sprints all to the beat of fun and motivating music.
As a Podcaster for the last five years, I have been able to curate over 150 shows that highlight health professionals with product, services or foundations that are helping others to live a life of heath and longevity. When someone asks me about a particular subject in the health field, I often refer them to my YouTube and the show that will answer their concerns.
I have to say I am most proud of the transitions I have seen my clients and students make from a life of sabotaging their minds and bodies to their ability to truly take the care to love themselves. I have seen those who were so depressed that they were suicidal turn their life around through small steps that changed their mood, their weight and overall their ability to make healthy mindful choices that led them to find the joy in their life. Nothing better than that!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
For me, it was following my passion, as a commercial producer I was in a job where I made a lot of money selling fast food, soft drinks, and alcohol with very little personal satisfaction. I realized that helping others and feeling good about who you are and what you are doing is simply priceless.
