Exploring Life & Business with Adam Small of ADS Music Partners

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Small.

Hi Adam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cool! What’s Up? I’m Adam Small from Detroit, Michigan. I’m a 30 year old music executive. My main focus is talent management, A&R, and executive production. In 2015, I founded ADS Music Partners, a full-service management company. At ADS, we manage highly sought after artists, producers, and songwriters. A few of our clients include Gino the Ghost (@ginotheghost), Supakaine (@supakaine), Nevaeh Jolie(@nevaehjolie), and Lex (@lexmusic), amongst others. It was while building ADS that I met my current business partner, industry veteran and CEO of Artistry Group, Max Gousse. As a music industry heavyweight most known for his A&R work with Beyoncè, Adina Howard, B2K and YG, he played a crucial role in my career as a mentor and friend. Once hired by Max as a social media intern, I quickly grew into a leadership role and today I serve as head of A&R and President of Artistry Records.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A mixture of both, but one of my earliest struggles was moving to LA from Detroit with no industry contacts. Navigating those waters was difficult, and at one point, I was even sleeping on an air mattress with all of my clothes in garbage bags. Ultimately, you just have to figure it out, and at the end of the day all of that struggle made every win that much greater.

We’ve been impressed with ADS Music Partners, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Here at ADS Music Partners we’re a full-service entertainment company founded by me and based in Los Angeles, California. We provide talent management, artist development, and distribution services for a variety of today’s top charting artists, songwriters, and producers. Our roster of hitmakers have seen great success A&R’ing, co-writing, and producing multiple Billboard #1’s including Saweetie’s “My Type”, (3x platinum), “Best Friend” featuring Doja Cat (Platinum), Saweetie’s “Back to the Streets feat. Jhene Aiko (Gold), and Meg Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer” featuring Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign (2x platinum). Other notable hit records include, Saweetie’s “Icy Girl” (platinum), Mulatto’s “B*tch from Da Souf” remix feat. Saweetie and Trina (platinum), the Chainsmokers “Kills You Slowly” (#1 album), and many more. In addition to running all aspects of ADS, I also serve as President and Head of A&R for Artistry Records, and am currently overseeing joint ventures with Def Jam, Epic, and Warner Records for select Artistry clientele.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Help is always needed in any way, shape, or form. Oftentimes people don’t want to do the little things, but it’s those tedious tasks that create empires. So I would say just be consistent and persistent in your approach when offering your hand. Those efforts stick out in a major way. In terms of collaborating, our ears are always open, so never hesitate to reach out.
