Check Out Mike Murphy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Murphy.

Hi Mike, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing comedy in Pittsburgh where I’m from in 2012 cause I was always the Funny guy since a child. I did an open mic and went really good so I knew at that moment that I was meant to make people laugh for a living. In 2014 I just stopped because there wasn’t many opportunities to perform in my city and I felt defeated. So from 2014 until 2019 I didn’t do any shows or write any material but then I met a promoter who booked me on a show to open for DC Young fly and after the show I got bit by the bug again and knew it was time to really take it serious so 5 months later I relocated to Los Angeles and been here ever since.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road because the process of winning requires failing along the way. I moved to La 3 months before covid happened and I was stuck in a new city as a single father during the craziest time I’ve lived through. My perseverance and commitment to doing what I said I was going to do is why I’m still thriving and accomplishing my goals.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a stand-up comedian who also makes comedy content on social media as well. I also act but that’s a new venture for me so I’m still learning it. My most proud moment is that I got to open a show at the comedy store and Dave Chappelle closed it out and it was my first time ever performing there. What sets me apart from others is that nobody can be me and I can’t be anyone else. God made me different and therefore I’ll get what is meant for me as long as I’m ready to receive it.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Hard work. Dedication. Consistency. Being funny. Being likeabke. Being authentic and mostly being appreciative of the small things.
