Hi Zhihao, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a psychology therapy background, going through the transnational life stage and globalization, I get to witness and experience the interpersonal interaction on human connection/disconnection. This becomes the theme that my narrative focuses on, exploring the different representation of connection, even reconstructing the definition of connection is worth-investigating for me as a filmmaker.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think the biggest challenge is always another form of the reward: which is exploring what you truly want to leave the world with. Sometime you design a topic during script-writing, but the core value has been shaped continuously during the making of the film. It can be devastating, it can be empowering, all of the experiences and sensation will be one of the puzzles for the final answer.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a writer-director. I tell stories about human connection. I believe, cross different genre, different era, different technology, the human connection is an everlasting discussion that deserves timeless attention to explore.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love to drive, every time I am on the road, I feel like I am finally have a control of a part of my life. The driving culture in LA is something special for me. Also, Based on my years in LA and people I have formed meaningful connection with, LA is a city where there are stars in people’s eyes and a harbor of talents all around the world. I get inspired and empowered by various people and encounters here despite the horrifying cost of living expenses.
