Today we’d like to introduce you to Zane Reynosa.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Zane Marie but I also go by Zane One; I am a Los Angeles native from Whittier, California. I use my gifts and express myself in many forms. I started my career in music in 1989 at a young age and I am blessed to still be active in the Hip Hop community as an Emcee in our city. Music is still an important outlet for me seeing as I have actively prioritized making new music which is dropping this year. In addition to music, I started making art with paper in 1992 which led me to become a vendor selling my one of a kind crafts and bags. My love for vintage shaped my art medium and led me to design and create one of a kind bags and luggage pieces where I cut out vintage fabric and “repurpose” it in beautiful designs- giving life to pieces of luggage or old bags that might have found their way to the landfill. This then led me and inspired me through my love of music to also make paper art collages of my favorite artists as an ode in reverence to them. These are all things I feel help me get my wiggles out creatively, but what has completely changed me, is the deep body work that I have been doing. I started studying Gua Sha in 2019 and opened up my doors to sessions in 2022. I assist people who experience pain and help their bodies in releasing stagnant dense tissue and inflammation sitting on tendons or nerves causing severe issues. What appeals to me is that I have witnessed complete miracles after sessions. This type of work focuses on pain but as well serves as a mechanism to help remove deep trauma as a release. Supporting others in this way is so fulfilling and provides me with purpose.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The common denominator with the struggles I’ve experienced in all the communities that I am a part of has always been having to prove myself to others. It was once very difficult as a young Mexican mother of 4 in the 90’s making Hip Hop music. I faced extreme prejudice, not only from the community and the church, but also from the men all around me. I had to fight to create the music I desired and was met with resistance. I always had to prove my skills way more than any one else in my crew and in the streets, it was just the same. I know it was because I am a female. It was the birth of Hip Hop, the time of record deals and snakes, so we were all learning. I do understand at now 49 years old, that those difficulties have formed and shaped me to be resilient and to be who I am today.
In design and the small business community, the struggles I have faced are the biters- the people who steal your ideas and claim them as their own.
The challenges I have recently faced within the “Healing” community is negativity about doing this kind of work. Like Hip Hop, the Healing community has demanded that I prove myself, as some people have expressed, “Everyone wants to be a healer now”, as if it is a trend. I do, however, agree that there is an influx of perpetuators but I also know that some people do not understand that God will use anyone He chooses. As much as it has been hurtful, each experience has only made my purpose even more clear. The power in the healing so much stronger.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Artist, I am an Emcee and I am a Healer. I specialize in many things. I create one of a kind art pieces and collections.I make collage art on vintage wood or decorative pieces by cutting out of vintage books and placing prints of my favorite musicians on them. I also make repurposed luggage pieces and bags by cutting out vintage fabric and creating designs on the bags and cases. I have mastered my style and I have my own flavor and eye for placement and detail that sets me apart from others. I am a rapper and have been recording, making music and doing shows for over 30 years. What I am known for can vary depending on who you ask. It can come from the vending community from venues like ‘The Poetry Lounge’, ‘A Mic and Dim Lights’, ‘Beat Swap Meet’, or the UCLA Jazz And Reggae festivals. You also could have heard about me from my music with my legendary group called ‘The Tunnel Rats’. I am proud of all the things my hands have created. I am proud that I have used my voice and story to minister to others. I am thrilled to be expressing myself as a multidimensional artist. I am excited about the music I am creating with my all girl group called ‘The Ice Cream Crew’ and my solo album that I am working on and releasing later on this year. I created a healing topical body oil called ‘Azanete Oil’ that works in 15-20 minutes and lasts about 4-5 hours. It has been helping so many people across the states and this brings me so much joy. All in all, I am mostly proud to be a vessel to be used to help others in healing with the body work and Gua Sha medicine that I do. ‘Sessions with Zane’ is a deep intense 2 hour session where I help remove any densified tissue causing severe pain or discomfort as it gets moved through the lymphatic system and released, promoting blood flow where there was once stagnation. In these sessions I’ve witnessed deep trauma release. I have been telling my clients its like a form of time travel because we are going to go to the moment where that trauma was rooted and planted and we are together, going to dig it out. I bare witness to miracles before my eyes and that is such a great honor for me. There ain’t nothing better.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel I have been so authentically myself that others have been inspired to do the same. When I make art, I make things I would love for myself and others actually dig it and collect them. When I’m writing a song, I’m writing for my own personal release, but people have related to the words and flow and it’s mind blowing. I fought through fear and jumped off the precipice whole heartedly giving you all of me and it is working! I couldn’t be more grateful!
