Today we’d like to introduce you to William Nunn.
Hi William, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started acting while helping with production for a few short films in Knoxville, TN. I wanted to make my own short film and decided to provide voice-over to it (it was never finished but a good place to start). While working in multiple call centers, I had many coworkers and customers tell me to get into voice acting. I eventually listened.
Over time, I got training, coaching, and learned so much from friends and veterans in the voice acting industry. Over the last few years, got to make my own audio drama projects, be cast in other projects, and grow as an actor. I have also been involved in a theater which aided me tremendously. I now live in The Colony, Texas, and still aim to better myself in this new year.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This path requires a lot of patience and knowing you’re in for a road that doesn’t stop. There’s no endgame to acting. You just continue and audition, and experiment, and create. It’s an ongoing endeavor that I’m happy to continue doing. I’m passionate about storytelling and being part of great stories that will affect people on a multitude of levels is something that keeps me motivated. I don’t always get the part, but I love being in my love. Loving what you do, and having fun with it while also taking it seriously, is a great path to something I find fulfilling.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a voice actor but I also enjoy writing and playing music. I grew up as a bass player but now I mainly play on my Midi Controller Nektar Keyboard. I am using it to create music for my upcoming projects.
Thanks to my experience in voice acting, Dungeons & Dragons, and my One Shots: D&D Character Podcast series, I have become very efficient with improv. I love coming up with things out of the top of my head and allowing it to interweave into the narrative. It’s a great way to remain creative and give some surprises when things click and come together.
Online, I am also known as The Voice That Cooks. I have a voice that cooks, but I also enjoy cooking. I tend to post the food I make online, whether it be Potatoes, Pizza, Birria Tacos, and I always enjoy seeing the comments from people who are craving my food and recipes.
I am most proud of an upcoming project that you will hear more about later this year. I can’t say any more just yet.
What sets me apart from others is probably my love for Dune. I am still quite obsessed with the new movie that came out in 2021 and I’m anxious for Dune Part 2. Frank Herbert’s saga of 6 Dune books is one of my favorite series and many of my friends know my obsession. I’ve always had a great love for science fiction and fantasy, and Dune has a great blend of medieval ruling systems in a far future galaxy that we can somehow still see the human elements and concepts that make things about the series very fascinating. I’d love to be a part of that universe someday. Almost moreso than Star Wars.
What matters most to you?
People I care about. They keep me moving forward if other ways fail. I have wonderful friends that in the industry and that aren’t. Some I’ve still been close to even after a decade or more. Having a supportive community of like-minded individuals that root for you or even want to pursue similar goals as you can really bring forth incredible motivation. I love my friends and I wouldn’t be who I am and where I am without them.
