Today we’d like to introduce you to Wenwen(Flora) Nong.
Hi Wenwen (Flora), so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a UI/UX designer, I strive to spearhead product design to create a sustainable and inclusive future. I’m interested in designing seamless experiences for customer-facing products that take on social responsibility. I have three years of experience in marketing, content creation, and UX design. Previously, I have worked for world-renowned companies including Tencent Pictures, Xiaohongshu, and AKQA. Besides UX, I also love making interactive installations. My audiovisual installation “The Absence Between Us” was showcased at YBCA in San Francisco.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a non-native speaker, it’s not easy to fit in. I’ve had to learn a lot of things the hard way. Recently, I faced a challenge when my application for a US work visa was rejected due to a USCIS error. Given the complexity of filing an appeal, I’ve decided to reapply next year.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Absence Between Us shares personal human stories collected during forced isolation. The piece features intimate face-to-face conversations between individuals, showcasing the unique experiences, emotions, and personal narratives shared during their forced time apart. Universal themes emerge from the stories we share. We will invite the audience to reflect on their own experiences during times of isolation. The Absence Between Us resonates with the power of storytelling, fostering human connection and empathy.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
In 2017, I had the opportunity to spend a summer studying at UCLA, an experience that made me fall in love with Los Angeles. What captivates me most about the city is its fantastic weather—constant sunshine that never fails to lift your spirits. Beyond that, Los Angeles is a city that never lacks excitement, with a myriad of events happening all the time. Whether it’s attending concerts or movie premieres with friends, exploring art at places like the Getty Museum and the Broad, or witnessing breathtaking sunsets at Griffith Observatory, there’s always something to do. Additionally, LA boasts a wealth of incredible restaurants, bars, and cafes that promise delightful culinary experiences. The only drawback, in my opinion, is the notorious traffic, especially in the downtown area.
