Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Branda.
Vanessa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started creating content in 2020 during the pandemic. I was trying to process what was happening with Covid and politically in the world, and I just started talking into my phone. Five followers grew to 5,000, to 10,000 to now just under 100 thousand followers across all of my social platforms. I knew I wanted to use this platform for good and to make a change. What started as news content has now evolved into activism work. My mission is to create positive changes in Washington DC, educate my followers on policy and candidates, raise funds, and organize for women’s rights, healthcare, gun reform, and climate change.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had no idea that the page would grow to what it became, but initially I struggled with is this meaningful. I questioned if I could really force changes by putting videos on the Internet and the answer was absolutely. What I didn’t foresee was the extreme stress it puts on my mental health. Ingesting all of the atrocities of the world, and delivering it on a daily basis can be very straining. I had to learn to take breaks and step away to fully process things before creating. Now, I advocate for mental health and try to provide as much information to them as I can.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been lucky enough to connect with some amazing organizations through content and the real work is just beginning! The seeds for a massive grass roots movement have just been planted and the goal is to get as many young people engaged as possible and working toward the changes we as a society need to accomplish in order for this planet to have a future.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Through creating content I have found a massive network of connections who are all working toward the same social justice goals as I am. I’m a firm believer that if you are your most authentic self, and speak your truth the right people will find you.
