Today we’d like to introduce you to Travon Naim. He shares his story below:
Travon “Naim” Greene is a 29-year-old creative, born and raised in Northeast Washington, DC. Primarily self-taught in several fields including creative direction, graphic design, photography, make-up and more, Naim has dedicated his life to entrepreneurship through art. Now focusing on building a platform where he can not only combine his talents into a focus of directing and producing, Naim recently opened his first arts incubator, titled Studio Muze; where he aims to provide a space where artists of the future are inspired to take ownership of their creativity and are empowered to collectively create the world around them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The only smooth part about this journey was the discovery of my talents. I’m not quite sure how I began my studies in each of these creative fields over the years, but looking back on it, juggling the variety of artistic mediums always felt natural. Just as natural as walking and talking, maybe more! The difficult parts mainly revolved around me being able to freely express myself and my talents in all spaces. I wasn’t necessarily encouraged to pursue my interest in fashion design, make-up and hairstyling as a young boy due to the fact that those were deemed “girly” activities. So I found solace in other art forms such as photography, graphic design and visual arts. To then only realized I had a great passion for those fields as well. Eventually as I approached college, I began breaking those barriers of what I could and couldn’t do based on my gender and focused on developing my talents. Now here I am, allowing my talents to supply the life I could only imagine once upon a time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve kind of adopted the tagline of “the guy who does everything.” I’ve juggled so many art forms over the years that I’m not sure if I could pinpoint a particular title for myself other than a “Creative.” It’s who I am in and out, and I’m most proud of that. My ability to create in many ways has set the tone for my life and purpose. The more I feed that concept, the more I feel of value to myself and those around me. My most recent accomplishment has been the opening of my arts incubator, Studio Muze, which is pretty much a replica of who I am, translated into a business model.
Studio Muze is an interdisciplinary arts incubator that provides artistic resources for local artisans across a range of disciplines including creative direction, photography services, graphic design, make-up artistry, workshops in various creative fields, networking events for the local art community & more.
What makes you happy?
CREATING. No matter my mood, if I have the time and opportunity to create, I’m at peace and operating within my purpose.
