Daily Inspiration: Meet Timothy Harun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Harun.

Hi Timothy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was 11 years old when I noticed my desire to be a performer. I was looking at a magazine and Lil Romeo was on the cover wearing a Vince Carter, Toronto Raptors jersey. I remember looking at the magazine and then walking into my mom’s room and telling her I wanted to be an actor. She didn’t ask me a bunch of questions about why I felt this way. Instead, she just said, “Ok…that’s nice.”

It wasn’t until college when I began acting in plays. In spite of the joy I got from performing, I was unsure as to who I wanted to be professionally. It took several years of trial and error for me to accept the path that is tune with my spirit.

I model, write, and act. I recently co-wrote a comedic web series loosely based off my life as a struggling actor in LA. After a few years toiling through the industry from gig to gig, my character seeks to boost his profile as a performer. Through either serendipity or fate, he transitions into a career as a “mumble rapper.” His debut song is a litany of ignorant lyrics full of misogyny and sexism. While the character starts gaining some material success his interpersonal relationships inevitably suffer. The story is an outlandish comedic portrayal that highlights the absurdity of “faking it til you make it.” I look forward to sharing the first episode with audiences sometime in 2022.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth but the path was not made to be easy. In fact, if it was easy then everyone with a desire to pursue a career as an artist would do so. As a writer, I try to incorporate into my work the lessons I have learned from experiencing negative things like poverty and racism.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a passionate artist who is anxious to share their work with the world.
