Daily Inspiration: Meet Thomas Woolums

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Woolums

Hi Thomas, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small town just outside of Indianapolis, fortunate enough to live down the street from the largest venue in Indiana. My dad introduced me to rock and heavy metal at a young age, taking me to see bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, and Korn. Experiencing these artists live sparked my passion for music and ignited my curiosity about how it was created. Shortly after, I began playing the drums, which deepened my connection to the art.

Around the age of 8 or 9, I stumbled upon various types of electronic music on YouTube, particularly drawn to Skrillex. I was amazed by the complexity and creativity of the sound, and I had no idea it was all produced on a laptop. From that moment, I knew I wanted to pursue this path—I wanted to learn how to design those captivating sounds and create the electronic music that fascinated me.

At 12, I asked for a computer for my birthday—not anything extravagant, just something to help me get started. I began collecting equipment and dedicated my after-school hours to experimenting with Ableton Live, the software I had downloaded. Through online forums and Skype, I connected with others who shared my passion, and we became friends, learning from each other while creating hundreds of songs together. Many of those friendships endure to this day.

Over the years, I’ve realized I can turn my passion into a career, and I’ve committed myself fully to music. I won’t stop pursuing this dream until the day I leave this earth.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Like everyone, I face roadblocks in my life that challenge me and compel me to rebuild myself. The journey of a music producer is no exception. I’ve had to make significant sacrifices along the way— from relationships, to close friendships, and even time with my family. Pursuing a career in music comes with a cost: the cost of sacrifice and immense hard work. Yet, no matter how lost I feel at times, I always find my way back to that initial passion—the moment I first discovered what music meant to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear many hats in my professional life, but to narrow it down, I’m a music producer specializing in subgenres of EDM, including Trap, Bass Music, UK, and Hip-Hop. I release my music under the alias BVNISHED. While I’ve had a few underground label releases, my proudest achievement this year is my official remix of “HITA” (Hands in the Air) by Flosstradamus and my good friend Viperactive. Although it was created for a competition, it was released as an official remix afterward. The track came out last month, and I’m incredibly excited to have been a part of it.

What matters most to you?
Friends and family are incredibly important to me. While I mentioned earlier that I’ve had to make sacrifices in these areas for my craft, I ultimately value my relationships above all else. Life is finite, and spending quality time with my loved ones is what truly matters. They bring me joy and provide a much-needed break from music, which is essential for my well-being.
