Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Woodward.
Hi Taylor, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Six years ago, I woke up in my Melbourne, Australia apartment at 2am, put a blazer on top of my pajamas, and had a Skype interview for an editorial internship at LA Confidential Magazine. Little did I know, that was the first step in my now six years in Los Angeles working in the brand and marketing industry.
Having studied Journalism, I fell quickly into copywriting and got my first gig as a Copywriter at Uber Eats. While the cold brew on tap and endless snack drawers were *very* nice, it was the opportunity to be working everyday alongside some of the most intelligent and entrepreneurial-minded people that helped me stay there for almost two years. In that time, I had the opportunity to write copy for emails that went into the hands of the entire SoCal market, I interviewed chefs from the like of Jeremy Fox to Brooke Williamson and ate a concerning amount of DK Donuts.
Despite my love of writing, I felt an itch to not be pigeon held into copywriting and made the decision to leave Uber to run Social Media at YogaWorks. Fast forward two years and many downward dogs later, I landed what felt like a dream position as the Social Media Manager at sleepwear brand Lunya. Today I attempt to keep up with TikTok trends that somehow make me feel old, run a Brand Ambassador program that has generated over $1.5million in revenue since we first built it just over a year ago, and optimize social channels that make women feel confidently comfortable, everyday.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve definitely experienced my fair share of ‘what am I doing moments?’ – when I’ve felt the pressure of workloads and expectations from talented peers, to also not knowing exactly ‘what’ I want to do. What I love about LA is that it always feels like there are opportunities and open doors for you in the city. Taking on freelance positions and working side hustles has been helpful for me to better understand what I love and don’t love and what I want to be doing more of, as well as being an opportunity to meet new people and make connections – both personal and professional.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the Social Media Manager at Lunya where I run point on strategy, content creation, and execution on our social channels. As part of my role, I also oversee Influence partnerships and our Brand Ambassador Program. To date, my biggest milestone has been building a Brand Ambassador program (was there from day one!) that has now grown to working with 150+ Brand Ambassadors on a monthly basis.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Is it lame to say that my biggest resources have been my parents? I don’t know what I would have done without having them to help me with those tough work conversations that surround pay raises, promotions, and work life balance. Aside from that, having hobbies and a life outside of work has been important to keep me sane and happy.
