Daily Inspiration: Meet Taylor Henderson, PT, DPT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Henderson, PT, DPT

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Working in the world of pediatric therapy, my goal has always been to meet each family and child that I encounter with compassion and support. However, I found that in the hustle and bustle of the day to day, there wasn’t enough time allotted to each family to be able to provide the high quality care, compassion, support, and family education that every family deserves and I knew that something had to change. That’s when I decided to start BloomWell in 2021 and my goal was this: to specialize in providing high quality physical therapy and wellness services for children and always lead with compassion and emphasize family education and empowerment. BloomWell is a place for families to come, feel validated and supported, and receive expert support and guidance along their child’s motor development journey.

We have now been able to expand to provide the same high quality physical therapy and wellness care for moms struggling with orthopedic discomfort and injuries including neck, shoulder, back, and SI joint pain and also offer mommy and me exercise classes to help mamas find their community while gently easing back into an exercise routine alongside their babies under expert care. We also offer one-on-one wellness sessions and educational Purposeful Play Workshops to empower parents along their baby’s motor development journey and taking out the guess work and anxiety that is so common! Wondering how much tummy time your baby needs or if your baby is “on track” for their milestones? These are some of the common questions we are able to answer for families to decrease their day to day stress.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been struggles along the way! Just starting BloomWell, in general, was very scary! But my faith, my family, and having the confidence and belief that what I dreamt of providing for families was different and needed encouraged me to take the leap and I am so grateful that I did. Learning how to start up and run a business was definitely a challenge, too, as all of my background was in science as a PT and had very little business knowledge. I am blessed to be surrounded by so many other small business owners that have supported me along the way such as Dr. Dani Calahan, DC from Calahan Family Chiropractic and Leora Robles from Breastfeeding Center of Orange County who have been two of my greatest mentors. In the early days of BloomWell, I suffered a miscarriage and was absolutely devastated. It made me question what to do or if I should keep going with my business but as I processed my grief, it became clear to me that my mission with BloomWell was more important now than ever before and it greatly deepened my compassion and empathy for the families that I worked with. I truly believe that my loss, as well as my own motherhood journey now with my son, has helped me continue to pursue my mission and grow my connection with all of our amazing BloomWell families!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our motto is this: Compassion first, PT second. What sets BloomWell apart is the level to which we personalize our care, the time we dedicate to each family, and the support we provide. We also offer a high level of access to our PTs for our BloomWell families providing them with our number to text or call with questions anytime between appointments! What I am most proud of in regard to BloomWell is providing a space for families to build community and find reassurance and support along their journey through parenthood. I’m also proud of us being voted the Best Physical Therapy Practice of 2023 in Laguna Hills!

For our pediatric services: We specialize in treatment of children 0-3(ish) years old for diagnoses including gross motor delay, torticollis, toe walking, and much more. We also provide flat head repositioning programs to help families correct baby’s head shape and avoid a helmet. We also offer wellness sessions which focus on screening your baby for things like torticollis, flat head syndrome, strength and range of motion and review milestones, and offer tips and tricks for tummy time and other motor skills at home. We provide families with education regarding their child’s development during wellness appointments to emphasize preventative and proactive care!

For our mama services: We offer orthopedic physical therapy services for any aches, pains, or injuries that come along with motherhood or life in general!

For our classes and workshops: We offer our Move with Mama mommy and me exercise classes for pregnant and postpartum mothers all under the guidance of skilled doctor of physical therapy and postpartum corrective exercise specialist, Dr. Nikki Amaro, PT, DPT. Every exercise for mom is also paired with an exercise for baby to support their gross motor development!
We also offer Purposeful Play Workshops and other educational opportunities such as baby wearing workshops to educate and empower families about their child’s motor development!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
When I originally began PT school, I was set on pursuing a career as a sports PT and focusing on concussion rehab after I suffered two concussions of my own during my college soccer career and wanted absolutely nothing to do with pediatrics. However, during one of our courses in PT school, I was given the opportunity to work with children as part of a research study and absolutely fell in love with pediatric physical therapy and the rest is history!
