Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanner Kerrins
Hi Tanner, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started making short films in my backyard with a little camcorder and a couple of my friends. Ever since I was little I loved telling stories. I remember seeing one Pixar short titled ‘Knick Knack’ which I just thought was the most entertaining and creative thing in the world. In terms of how I got to where I am now, I’d say it was just continual work perfecting my craft. When I went to school, I took all the video production classes I could. I taught myself how to write for the screen by reading other scripts I could get a hold of. By the time I had gotten to college, I had already wrote, directed, and acted in a number of short films. Funny enough, I would only start looking at acting as a career towards the end of my time at university.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ask any actor or writer if their path was smooth, I think we’d all agree there is no smooth road to this line of work. I can think of at least a few occasions where I questioned if this path I was on was the right move. If I’m being fully transparent, I’d say there were also a handful of times I considered quitting. But, in the words of my friend John Nguyen, “I too wanted to quit. But after some time away from it [the film industry], I found myself coming back.”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an actor and writer, and for the past 7 years I have been appearing in shorts films, TV shows, and feature films. Some of the most notable productions I’ve been a part of include Barbie (2023), Blue Beetle (2023), and Spark (2024). While pursing acting, I have also written and directed my own feature film, ‘Leave Me in Pieces’ (2025). Speaking of writing, I’ve even written and self published a couple books, one of which recently made it to #1 Best Seller in New Science Fiction Stories.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I feel like I am constantly taking risks. My acting career for example, that requires me to take a chance and throw myself in front of a camera for hours on end. I mean, I know a few people who will leave the room as soon as a camera enters the room and I do it on the daily. The books I’ve written, I had fun writing them, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was fearful of releasing them to the public. In fact, I’ve told close friends that I’m currently working on a 3rd book (telling them gives me more reason to finish it), but I don’t know if anyone is going to like it, let alone give it a read. Something I’ve been struggling with myself is trying to figure out what qualifies as a risk. Is all that I’m doing enough?… The truth is, I think everything in my line of work is a risk, but it’s something I enjoy doing so, I’ll risk it.
