Daily Inspiration: Meet Tahnee Harrison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahnee Harrison.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m the eldest of five children raised in a small town just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada called Boulder City. Although I have always been most drawn to the arts, I took the MCAT and applied to medical school after attending college at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. I was accepted into medical school but made the decision to leave before taking the first semester’s exams. After returning to Las Vegas, I took my first acting class and was instantly hooked. When a friend of mine was looking for a roommate in Los Angeles, I jumped at the opportunity to move to Los Angeles and pursue acting more seriously. My first booking was a lead role in a Pepsi commercial. Since then, I have booked commercials for Amazon, Subaru and various other car, credit card and makeup commercials. At the end of 2020, I booked my first lead feature film role. In 2021, I booked two more lead feature film roles and one supporting role opposite Jon Lovitz in “Tales of a Fifth Grade Robin Hood” currently playing on Tubi. I can also currently be seen on Lifetime playing the lead role of Sylvia in the film “Killer Ambition.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I definitely struggled with performance anxiety when I first started. I wish I had a magic formula for overcoming it, but I think it was just time and experience that eventually led me to feeling more confident in front of the camera and crew. One of the more challenging aspects of acting is that it unrelentingly holds a magnifying glass up to your insecurities. The camera misses nothing. This can lead you to start questioning everything about yourself, and there is certainly no shortage of people telling you their own “right way” to do things. You have to confront your insecurities head on and stay connected with the passion you have for storytelling and performance. Find your own voice as an artist and tether yourself to that vision whenever your confidence begins to waver.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a classically trained singer and have a minor in Voice from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland.

What matters most to you? Why?
Authenticity matters the most to me, which may sound strange coming from a person that plays make believe for a living. But even on a set where everything has been location scouted, storyboarded and rehearsed, it’s the moments where the actors really feel something that the magic happens. You can try to fake the emotion and that may work to a point, but if the actors aren’t truly moved, the audience won’t be either.
