Daily Inspiration: Meet Suzie Strosin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzie Strosin

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For the past seventeen years, I’ve been casting unscripted TV shows, and what a wild ride it’s been! From interviewing ultra-competitive kids to billionaires and everyone in between, I’ve had the pleasure of connecting with people from all walks of life.

It all started at Chapman University, where I was pursuing my bachelor’s degree. I began an internship at MTV Networks’ West Coast Headquarters in Santa Monica, working in the casting department for the dating show “Parental Control.” That experience was nothing short of transformative. I learned how to conduct casting interviews and create talent pitches for the network executives. After graduation, I stayed in touch with the Casting Director and landed a job as a Casting Associate for the show’s next season. Going from intern to Casting Associate at MTV was truly a dream come true for me.

I contributed to 120 episodes of the television show “Parental Control,” which ultimately launched my career. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with nearly every major production company and network/streaming service specializing in unscripted television.

Eight years ago, after my oldest son was born, I took a leap of faith and founded my casting company, Casting Empire. Today, Casting Empire is a full-service casting company that specializes in unscripted and reality series, branded content, commercials, web series, and development projects.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s funny to admit, but for a while, I didn’t realize I was a freelance employee when I started working. I had been on the project for so long that I thought I was a permanent staff member! Reality hit me when my former boss began connecting me with other Casting Directors who were hiring – that’s when I quickly learned I was a project-based freelancer.

Being new to both casting and freelancing was definitely tough. Whenever a show would end and I didn’t have another project lined up, I would often wonder, “Will I ever get another casting gig?”

Someone once told me, “You’re only as good as your last job,” and that has really stuck with me. It helps keep me focused on always giving my absolute best to every show I cast.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in casting for unscripted and reality television series, branded content, commercials, and development casting. I love it when production companies come to me with a fresh idea for a show, and I get to help transform concepts into fully-fledged television series.

I’ve had the incredible opportunity to cast some truly iconic shows alongside my fantastic team. Some of my notable projects include E!‘s “Botched,” TLC’s “My Strange Addiction,” Peacock’s “Vanderpump Dogs,” Netflix’s “Ultimatum,” Netflix’s “Queer Eye,” along with several of Bravo’s Housewives franchises. I’m also a proud member of the Television Academy and The Casting Society of America (CSA).

At the core of what I do is finding and learning about people and their stories – then determine if they fit the scope of the specific show I’m casting. My amazing team excels at finding exceptional talent, editing casting interviews, and crafting creative biographies. This helps production companies and networks get to know the talent we present. Finding the right talent for a show can often be the most challenging part of the whole casting process.

Every time a production company approaches me to cast one of their shows, I feel incredibly humbled and honored. Having the responsibility to secure the perfect cast, knowing the high stakes of launching a new show or continuing a series, is an extraordinary privilege.
