Today we’d like to introduce you to Sticky Shaw.
Hi Sticky, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Newport Beach CA in 1981, now living in Venice Beach. Growing up I had learning disabilities, so art was an escape from the right and wrong answers. I made my own answers. I started becoming a professional artist in 2004 working for action spots Brands like Volcom, Von Zipper Grande Glove & Lib Tech Snowboards.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me, there’s always struggle, sometimes you get a lot of gigs and sometimes you won’t have any gigs, or patience. Patience is the biggest thing, I tell either Artist, it takes a long time to perfect your skills and to get your collectors and clients that you work with.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a painter and I play on the sewing machine. And I am developing a cartoon with some amazing people called Skeleton Steph. My painting are known for chactic backgrounds with a main character in the middle. Organized Chaos. My custon military jean jackets are getting kind of popular. You have to see the jackets to believe it.
But I am most proud of my cartoon Skeleton Steph, it taking a lot of my time. I like to say, it’s the punk rock version of the Gorillaz. I’m working with some amazing leed talented people, like Greg Cipes, a professional voice actor, for such cartoons as Michelangelo of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Beast Boy from teen Titans Go, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy is playing Skeleton Rob in the cartoon, this is some of the tales in the cartoon.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice is, to be nice and polite and humble to everybody you meet. You never know who you are going to run into, at a party, at a coffee shop, at a show. So go out, go to art shows, parties, NFT meeting do all of it, and bring STICKERS!!
