Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Freeman.
Hi Stacey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my blog in 2013 after having my first child. I loved being a new mom but I also wanted to find a way to honor my personal hobbies and passions. I used my blog as a way to create content related to my everyday life and favorite hobbies, including fashion, travel, recipes/baking, and I also started to talk about parenting. For over eight years, I’ve been creating unique content on my blog and have spent time growing my social media – especially Instagram and TikTok. I also spend time on Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I started my blog, I thought of it more as a creative outlet than a business. For the first three years, I focused on the creative aspects, and then I began to realize all of the potential to monetize the business, just as social media was really taking off. Thankfully, I haven’t had many major struggles. The biggest struggle I’ve had this year is learning how to manage negative criticism and trolls on my social media platforms. It was a challenging lesson but also an important one for me to learn.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For my day job, I direct a research institute at a university in LA. I have a Ph.D. in educational policy and I have been working as an educational administrator since 2005. For my ‘side hustle’ that’s turned into a second full-time job, I create and manage a lifestyle blog and social media following at poshinprogress.com and @poshinprogress on social media.
I am very proud of completing my Ph.D. while I had two children under 4. That is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I also started my blog at the same time, so those three years between starting my blog (with newborns) and completing my Ph.D. were very challenging. I enjoyed the blog work though, because it gave me a way to use my creativity to write, take photographs, and do other things I truly love, like baking, fashion, and traveling.
A lot of people are surprised to learn about my other career in higher education because it is so ‘different’ in their minds from my work on my lifestyle blog.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
One of the important things to me in creating content is to ensure that I am making a difference and helping people. I want my content to be useful and also help people to think and consider new things or ideas.
