Today we’d like to introduce you to Spyder Dobrofsky.

Spyder Dobrofsky

Hi Spyder, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story? It was very unconventional. I started shooting photographs and videos of expensive sports cars and posting them on the internet back in 2005 — I was 12 years old at the time and had recently been given my first Handycam. My obsession with cars quickly tornado’d into a viral video, a worldwide car website called Car-parazzi.com and ultimately sitting on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show next to Jack Black and being featured on the cover of LA Times.

My love of moving images eventually (a decade later) turned into making short films in college — and finally writing my first feature film called Mouth to Mouth. That script started me down a path of writing 27 spec scripts, having four movies made, getting into the holiday film market and having my first horror flick produced by Tubi (“Teardrop”).

Obviously, there were some gaps between those landmark moments and a lot of writing — but it’s really been a game of passion and challenging myself on the page and with directing films. That leads us to this year, where I’ve embarked on directing my first feature film, “Down Below”, which features Eric Roberts, Hutch Dano, and Christopher Livingston, amongst a sea of other talented actors and creatives.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Extremely smooth and zero hiccups! Kidding. But really, optimism and figuring out how to bounce back quicker, with more courage, more boldness and more belief in yourself is the ticket to success and joy as a moviemaker and writer.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Such a loaded question. If I told you, I’d have to… I’m a screenwriter, a filmmaker, a lover of people, a perfect peeling head-high wave, and a good time. I am most proud of the movies I’ve had a hand in making and never giving up on the dreams I had as a kid and still have to this day. I hope to inspire others to do what they love and never lose that spark — which I’ve found comes from the process more than results (although results are nice, too).

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was easy-going, I think… ***If you want the real answer, ask my parents…
