Today we’d like to introduce you to Spencer Phillips.
Hi Spencer, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Venturing into the fragrance industry was only natural. As a child, I grew up watching my father make and sell incense on the boardwalk of Venice Beach. Being inspired by my father’s work and the artistic atmosphere in my hometown of Los Angeles, I vowed to continue the family tradition by creating the perfect vibes for people’s homes. Under my father’s guidance, I perfected my craft in perfuming. My love and passion for making home fragrances have only grown since.
I founded Monster + Ghost in 2019 and operate in Los Angeles, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada.
I create high-quality home fragrances for people moved by art, luxury, and culture. I’m here to make sure that each one of our customers is able to experience this unique ambiance in their home. I want their home to feel welcoming and relaxing.
At Monster + Ghost, all incense is hand-dipped and candles are hand-poured using fine fragrance oils, natural oils, and essential oils.
Because I want to maintain a level of sophistication and edge for my brand, I’ve set out to find up and coming artists who want their artwork showcased through my company. I find artists are commission custom pieces that give some sort of relevance to Monster + Ghost while allowing the artist to create.
Every month we update a custom-curated playlist for our customers with music personally selected by myself. I hope that this aspect adds another layer of interest and depth for those using our products in the home.
When I’m not working at Monster + Ghost, I’m usually traveling and experiencing all of what life has to offer. I enjoy being immersed in art, fashion and culture. I’m a huge foodie and would pretty much try something at least once.
Monster + Ghost is now in 14 retail stores around the U.S.
I am determined to propel my brand to greater heights and continue creating a long-lasting fragrance that people love and enjoy in their homes.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I began building my brand during 2019-2020 at the height of the covid pandemic. Fortunately enough, the pandemic allowed me to enter the home fragrance space with ease and because people were at home more often, my company was able to flourish. The downtime I had at home during 2020 gave me the reassurance to build a company from the ground up. I took it as a personal challenge to come back successful in 2021. It was cool for me because it helped me reflect on my journey and career as a whole. It really makes you appreciate the grind.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I began acting/modeling in 2014 and have continued into my 30’s. I was also co-owner of the USPA recognized training facility, Club 104 fitness based in Rancho Cucamonga, California. This is a part of my life I take my creative pride in. In many ways, I’ve merged all areas of my life including interests, personality traits, and hobbies. I know what it means to be myself and wouldn’t change for the world. When I’m not acting or modeling, I work as a high school teacher and full-time business owner for my company Monster + Ghost. I’m also working on becoming a real estate agent in California and Nevada.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Been in that water since a young’n, you just shark food (yum, yum)
