Today we’d like to introduce you to Spawk Cordova.
Hi Spawk, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Los Angeles but moved to south Phoenix in 1992. It was here in Arizona that I got bit by the art bug. It all started with copying the art on envelopes my dad and uncle would send from prison. It was usually just cool lettering and cholo pen work. I slowly got involved in Graffiti and the rest is history I guess. I painted trains with a some of my friends a few times a week and learned more about life thru the graffiti world than I ever did in school. These days I treat my business like its a graffiti crew and make sure to leave my mark everywhere I go. Spawk and Co. is something I launched during covid in 2019 and It will be my company forever.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life is never a smooth road, Theirs always bumps and dead ends but you got to keep on truckin as they say. Running a business and being an artist has mentally been the hardest thing I have ever done but when its going good it feels great. The hardest struggles honestly have been the money. Everything I do is funded by the art I create so if I don’t create I have to use up the savings in order to keep going. I have two boys and take care of my mom so slowing down is no option.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to call myself a Creative. I dont like to tell people I am a Artist or Designer even tho I sometimes do but immediately after I use those words I feel like I shoot myself in the foot, I just like to make cool shit. I think my biggest accomplishment has been working for myself for so long, I originally Moved in to my art studio in 2019 with an agreement that I would pay for three months in advanced and If it doesn’t work out I would move out immediately but Im still here and grateful for all the support I have gotten in the years past.
What matters most to you?
My kids are my everything. I feel like they dont know how hard i work for the little we have so I work harder and try my best to not show how scared I am sometimes when money doesnt come in. I wish I could give them more and spend more time with them but life just keeps going by and I have to be happy we are all healthy and together.
