Daily Inspiration: Meet Shai B

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shai B.

Hi Shai, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Shaniya but everyone knows me as Shai. I was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Fl. I started out my journey as a barber/hairstylist back home when college didn’t really work out for me. I was at a point in my life, a couple of years back, where I didn’t really know what to do. I knew I wanted to leave a mark in this world and make people feel good. My mom was a braider and my sibling and I grew up in black hair salon culture. It really shaped me into the woman I and because without that influence from my mother, I don’t know what I’d be doing. So fast forward, I came to LA with hope, a prayer and $200. I took that leap of faith and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I’ve been a stylist for 4 years now in LA and it’s truly a blessing to see myself come this far. I’m forever appreciative of the village of people I have that have supported me this far. I still have a lot of work to do!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It for surely wasn’t easy. LA will definitely have you questioning your decisions and contemplating on giving up but I’m so happy I didn’t!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a barber/hairstylist. I specialize in Men’s grooming, semi-permanent male hair units and wig application.

I’m mostly proud of my determination. All of what I accomplished is solely God and my hard work. Once I set my mind on something that I want to do, I don’t stop until it’s done.

How do you think about luck?
I really feel like I am lucky to be able to stay in this space for as long as I have. It’s a lot of people that have dreams of being here. I was one of them. I manifested being in a big city. I wrote three big cities Dian every day and I lived in each one and LA just stuck! So to whoever’s reading this… it is possible. Chase after your dreams!
