Daily Inspiration: Meet Sergine Garraud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sergine Garraud.

Hi Sergine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you, it’s an absolute pleasure to share my story with you! My story actually begins in the most beautiful country in the world… Haiti!

I was born right in the city of Port-au-prince, the country’s capital.

When I was a little girl, my family & I moved to New York to start a new life. We settled for a small town in Upstate New York called “Hudson”. (Go Bluehawks!!) haha

Growing up in a small town was difficult for me cause I just KNEW I didn’t belong there haha,

I had strict Haitian parents & spent a lot of time alone so my greatest escape (besides my friends) was film & music.

I was in choir & theatre at church and school,

& I even took piano lessons. I loved it, the fulfillment of using my imagination & making my art come to life always made my heart smile in a way I could never explain…

After high school I didn’t really know exactly what I “wanted” to do, I just knew I wanted to be proud. I picked nursing cause I figured one more Haitian nurse for the grand army couldn’t hurt right? Wrong. I’m not afraid to say that I absolutely hated college & that’s okay.

I quickly jumped into film after 2 semesters & never looked back.

It’s been the craziest ride of my life but the best decision I ever made.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh noo, It has not always been a smooth road honey but God is so good & he made me a tough cookie! It was important to me to have my parents support for my new career but unfortunately I kept it from them for the first year.. I knew it would take time for them to accept & understand it.

I’ve faced rejection, lost friends, been broke learning how to hustle between gigs.. & the homesickness be the worst. I’ve made LOTS of sacrifices to be where I am now… but I wouldn’t change it for a thing..

Especially having to shut out outside noise, people love to project their fears onto you until they see what you can do .. you gotta have tough skin when someone asks you “what’s your back up plan?” It’s the audacity for me

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an Actress, Model, Writer & future Director!

A Brand ambassador for the Los Angeles Rams & I also work in film production myself as well as events & Market research. I’ve been having a blast so far & so excited for the future. I support body positivity. I believe our bodies are perfect & should be loved & celebrated in every way. I want everyone, especially women to feel good, beautiful & proud when they look in the mirror.

I also want to continue supporting immigrants which is very important to me & to become a voice for them because I too, am an immigrant & have secretly faced a lot of the things we’re currently trying to improve now.

I also aspire to inspire. I want to make as many films as possible & move people the way I’ve been moved. Got a lot in the works

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Ha! One of my favorite things about myself is that I’m a risk taker. I can’t see life any other way… I think it’s essential to take risks in life and especially in this business that I’m in.

Only then will you see what you’re truly capable of. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable and take as many chances as you can. It was a HUGE risk for me to just pack up and move to the other side of America by myself, especially to pursue a career in entertainment with no backup plan… and with that I found myself. Take risks babyyy
