Daily Inspiration: Meet Savasia Vida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savasia Vida.

Hi Savasia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Originally from Antioch, CA, I started WORTHYOPP., short for “worthy opponent,” in 2015 as a unisex streetwear brand all about the idea of owning your self-worth to overcome anything. The goal is to incorporate this message while also highlighting individuality through unique designs and one-of-one handmade pieces. Aside from my brand, I’m also a self-taught graphic designer & animator with plans to start my visual services in 2021. I believe in the power of one’s self-worth to overcome anything life throws at you – as someone who’s built their self-worth back up from nothing, I hope to inspire anyone who feels like they’re not good or worthy enough to fit in. It’s okay to be different, It’s okay to be an individual!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely was a rocky road the first few years – I started my brand while I was studying my undergrad in Film at UCSB so I had trouble managing my time; I always felt rushed and the pressure to stay consistent with content. But the biggest lesson from that was the importance of patience. When you have a brand, you are only racing yourself when it comes to releases. Don’t worry about what others are doing, move at your own pace at times and you’ll get to your destination in the right time. Learning to be more patient with my work has me more clear and confident on my designs each season. Every journey has obstacles but it’s important to understand them to overcome.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Launching my visual services in 2021 is something I’ve been planning for and been real excited about. I’m thankful that 2020 helped me find my passion in motion graphic design and I plan on using that by providing affordable services to other brands/creatives. For WORTHYOPP., experimenting with new handmade designs and collaborating with local artists in 2021 is in the works, with hopes that my message spreads throughout this great city and beyond.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Patience and mindset is beyond key! Patience in adapting, learning a new skill, creating something new with the materials/income available at the time, and finding yourself better through it all. With patience, you’re able to slow down your creative process and make clear decisions that align best with your path. But patience isn’t achieved without the right mindset. You got to be okay with obstacles because they’re part of the journey, but it’s how you overcome them that help you succeed. Especially during the hard times, it’s important to keep your mindset strong and able to adapt to any situation; change is supposed to be uncomfortable, but necessary to your growth.
