Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarahi Ramirez and Michelle Hsiung. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Co-owners Sarahi Ramirez and Michelle Hsiung Pounds met here in Beverly Hills at the beginning of their hair styling careers. Together, from the ground up, they have grown in their careers and have now expanded to create a new salon and team of talented stylists they have always envisioned with a positive salon environment.
Mélange Salon is a new, laid-back, luxurious salon nestled in the heart of Beverly Hills. The spacious yet intimate industrial salon is flooded with natural lighting, offering a warm yet airy feel. It is a luxurious yet cozy space.
Mélange derives from the French verb “to mix.” Here at Mélange Salon, we incorporate the latest hair trends while providing a blend of cultures within our talented team to accommodate our diverse clientele.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been quite the adventure. There have been some bumps & detours on the journey, but it has definitely been a learning experience. We have grown a lot in this short amount of time and learned to juggle many hats. It was the exact path we were meant to take.
It was challenging to open a business at the tail end of the Covid Pandemic. It pushed us to get back into a big salon environment after many of us stylists had moved to small salon suites and/or just saw our clients at home. We wanted to create a healthy salon environment not only for our clientele but also for our team members and artists.
Once the adventure began, we were faced with the many challenges it takes to own and operate a business on a larger scale. From creating our team to the many logistics to operating a business. We learned how to manage everything from the smallest items (like cleaning inventory) to the biggest legal aspects to owning a business. It has definitely made us appreciate our career as hair stylists, and our job to create beautiful hair, the more enjoyable part ha ha ha.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Co-owner Sarahi:
Master Colorist, Extension Specialist, & Educator
I love to create the perfect custom vibrant color for my clients while making sure is it the perfect fit for each individual. There’s nothing I love more than color corrections. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the transformation along with the happiness and confidence my clients have afterwards. I also love extensions and smoothing treatments. Such as Keratin, Brazilian Blowouts, and Japanese straighteners. Making my clients look youthful, beautiful, and to make them fall in love with their hair again is my specialty.
Co-owner Michelle:
Master Stylist, Colorist, Extension Specialist, Bridal Stylist, & Educator
When it comes to hair, I have a passion for it all. I am the third-generation hair stylist in my family. I have always loved being in a salon; it has always felt like home to me. I love being an influential part of my client’s lives, from coloring & styling their hair to being a part of their biggest moments, like their wedding day. I have been fortunate to have traveled and worked on many brides over the years. My work has been featured in articles like BRIDES Magazine and featured in Smashing Glass. I have been a stylist for the Rene Furterer Fashion Show and have traveled to Paris for the MCB by Beauté Sélection Hair Show. I always want to maintain the integrity of my client’s hair while giving them the look they aspire to.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Sarahi:
I feel very fortunate that I can say I had a very happy childhood. I was raised in both, The Bay Area and Mexico, I grew up around an infinity amount of cousins (my mom had 10 siblings) and being the oldest sibling, I had the responsibility to always look after my little sister and brother. Which I’m very thankful for because this always made us have the close relationship we have. I’ve always loved art and sports. I remember the first haircut I did was when I was around 10 years old on my neighbor’s Barbie doll, and it was not good! By the age of 13, my love for the beauty industry has grown, and it was what made me always consider cosmetology school.
Michelle:
I was always very creative from an early age. I loved anything art-related, from painting to the theater, classical ballet, and anything I could create with my hands. There were a lot of DIY projects in my house. I was always busy doing something or making something. Being an only child, I learned to how make friends and converse with many people much older than me. I have always been a social butterfly. During my teenage years, I was a rebel and a troublemaker. I was always going against the grain, learning everything too fast and the hardest way. It made me compassionate and also resilient.
