Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Reasons.
Hi Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began dancing at the age of five and realized early on how much I loved performing. My love and passion for dance and entertaining landed me on the hit reality TV show Dance Moms for seasons four and five. Being on the show made me realize I wanted to pursue more than dance and began taking acting classes.
Shortly after Dance Moms, I was cast in a leading role for a digital network series called Boss Cheer. I continued to learn and grow in the craft of acting and was cast in featured roles on major networks like ABC, FX and most recently HBO’s mini-series, Winning Time. As fortunate as I was to have these incredible opportunities early on in my life, I began to realize that just simply auditioning was not going to be enough, especially in an incredibly competitive industry. So at the age of nineteen, I began writing my first script, The Crest. Little did I know that some incredible opportunities would come from my writing this including producing and starring in the production of The Crest short. There is no feeling in the world like watching your hard work come to life!
Once the production of the short based off my pilot episode was complete, I wanted to find a way to tell the rest of the story I had written. In addition to the pilot, I wrote a complete eight-episode series. So I took a leap of faith and began to write a book based of the entire series. I’m happy to announce my book The Crest, will be released January ninth!
As my love for writing grew, I decided to write more scripts. I have two I am currently writing and two that I finished this year, The Crest and Rockport. Both have won major accolades with huge screenwriting contests landing them in the top ten percent of discoverable scripts.
Writing, producing and becoming an author has really helped in developing my acting skills. It has given me an opportunity to truly understand character development and the hard work that goes into a production from conception to the final project we all see on our televisions or the big screen!
In addition to acting, writing and producing, I am a senior at Arizona State University and the Competition Captain on the dance team there. I am majoring in fashion and currently have my own clothing line called Unfit the Brand.
As a young woman in the entertainment world, it is incredibly important to me to build my brand as well as to become as well-rounded and educated in all aspects of the industry. But more important to be a role model for young women like myself who want to pursue this type of career. My motto is to dream big, work hard and make it happen!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say my biggest challenge is trying to juggle all that I do. I’m currently taking eighteen credits a semester in my senior year on track to graduate Cum Laude this spring. That in itself is so much work. However, on top of school I have dance team, writing my scripts, taking acting classes, running my clothing line, my book launch and auditioning. It’s a lot and sometimes honestly, overwhelming. It takes a ton of discipline and time management skills to do what I do. But I keep my focus and know that my hard work is paying off.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My biggest accomplishment to date is really just trying to build my brand. I pride myself on hard work and learning and growing in all aspects of the entertainment industry. Because of that, I’ve had so many amazing opportunities. My biggest being cast in one of the most popular reality TV shows of all time, Dance Moms. It was such an incredible experience and sparked my love for being behind the camera.
I’m extremely proud of all my accomplishments. However, I’m the most proud of writing, producing and starring in my short film/ sizzle. However, it took a village to accomplish this production. Thanks to my amazing team at JEM, who worked equally as hard to make this happen! Watching something you’ve worked so hard creating come to life is so rewarding.
I think one thing that may set me apart from others pursuing a career like this is my willingness to put myself out there and take risks. I’m not afraid to fail nor am I afraid of rejection which in this industry there is a lot of rejection. I look at it this way, failures are just like accomplishments. They are equal opportunities to grow!
What does success mean to you?
I would define success as one day being able to look back at my life and not have one doubt that I didn’t pursue all my dreams.
