Daily Inspiration: Meet Sara Leeds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Leeds.

Sara Leeds

Hi Sara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a creator in NYC and the host of Doorman Stories.

Doorman Stories came from this long-held desire of mine to create a piece of work that tapped into New York culture in a way that hadn’t yet been done. I’ve always wanted to host, write, perform in some way, and it honestly took me years of trial and error to find what “my thing” would be. From the early days of Doorman Stories, I quickly saw comments flood in saying, “OMG, that’s my dad!” or “Thank you, these stories brightened my day more than you know.” Seeing that I’ve been able to cultivate this community around genuine feel-good content is so fulfilling. And the fact that it lets me channel my creative energy is just the selfish cherry on top!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish I could say it was! I think whenever you’re putting work out into the world, especially social media, you have to acknowledge you’re subjecting yourself to comparison/imposter syndrome/volatile performance. The highs are high, and the lows are low.

Some of the struggles come from simply being a woman on the internet. It’s also challenging to balance Doorman Stories with a full-time job! Scheduling interviews, tweaking my run of show, filming, and managing social channels is nearly a full-time job in and of itself. But the great news is that my videographer is a true partner who makes it so much more manageable and fun.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My “motto” (sounds cheesy, oh well) is to tell stories that make people feel happy and think differently.

I work full-time as a creative strategist in influencer marketing. I also work as a freelance content creator, copywriter, and creative strategist. And of course, host and produce Doorman Stories! I like to act and write whenever I find the time.

I’m most proud of three things that I’ve accomplished over the past three years:

1) Doorman Stories

2) Making a huge career pivot from corporate (management consulting specifically) to a fully creative path. It honored a younger version of myself true to who I really am that I think I ignored for way too long.

3) Doing the inner work to make that huge pivot, shut out external doubts, and believe that the fear of always wondering “what if” is greater than just going for it.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Someone cue the Oscars “play off” music. My parents, my boyfriend, my therapist, the insanely inspiring friends I’ve met since making those three big changes three years ago, my acting coach Christopher Chwee, and probably many other creatives who have no idea that I exist but whom I quietly stalk and am inspired by every day.
