Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Troxel
Hi Samuel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a music producer and DJ from Portland, OR but just recently moved here to beautiful Los Angeles. During my time on planet Earth I’ve worked with artists such as 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Cordae and Lute. I started my journey in middle school with a demo version of Fruity Loops 2 (before it was even called FL Studio), where I had to make a beat from start to finish or else that beat was gone forever, because the save feature was disabled (Tyler the Creator just recently mentioned this in an interview haha). At that time, I really needed a creative outlet to channel my energy or I was gonna go insane. Very thankful I found my gift early in life and it has let me to where I’m at today.
The moment that led me to figuring out that this was the right path for me was probably when I participated in a beat battle called Red Bull Big Tune. As far as beat battles go, this was the best of the best. I submitted one day just to say f*ck it and see what happens. Next thing I know, Jake One (one of the cohosts of the event), sends me an email saying I’m in. That’s when I realized I could actually do something with my passion.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh this road has not always been smooth let me tell you. From labels silently rejecting my songs on albums, to clients not doing what they said they would, being a music producer is not for the faint of heart. Even today, it can still feel like I’m driving a sports car through gravel LOL but I’ve learned to stay calm and grounded through the highs and the lows.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a producer and beat maker, most known for my work with 50 Cent (“You Took My Heart”, “NY” and “Leave The Lights On”). I’ve charted globally on the song “100 Million” with Indian artists DIVINE and Karan Aujla, maybe my biggest record I’ve ever done. But the work I’m most proud of are the projects I’ve produced fully for folks like Ty Farris (Room 39 Pt 1 and 2) and C Plus (Rentals). I’ve also released instrumental projects, with more on the way. 2025 is about to be a huge year for me.
What separates myself from the others? I think my work ethic and integrity alone separates myself from the pack. I try and make 5 beats a day, because I believe quantity breeds quality, and I only make music that I want to hear. I firmly believe I’m just a vessel for a higher power that creates music that touches peoples’ souls.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
One of the most important things that I could always rely on is my ear. I know what a good record sounds like. I figured out how to get that skill to translate into creating music. Success as a music producer starts and ends with knowing good records, and loving the process of making them.
