Today we’d like to introduce you to Safiya Sayyed
Hi Safiya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hey there! I’m Safiya Sayyed, a singer-songwriter and artist all the way from Pune, Maharashtra, India. Music has been my passion for as long as I can remember, especially rock and pop. Right now, I’m living the dream in Los Angeles, California, where I’m working hard to build my music career and find my unique sound. LA’s music scene is thrilling, and I’m loving every minute of being at the heart of the creativity of this amazing city
I packed my bags and moved to LA about three years ago to chase my dream of making it in the music world. Growing up, I was really drawn towards the Western Music, and Michael Jackson was and still is my biggest inspiration. I remember watching him perform as a kid and thinking, “That’s what I want to do.” His songs about making a difference inspired me, and from then on, I knew music was my calling.
At 19, I took the plunge and left India to study vocal performance at the Los Angeles College of Music. It was exciting but a little intimidating at first—new country, new people, and a whole lot of talented musicians. But once I found my groove, especially through the rock ensemble classes, I knew I was in the right place. I was exposed to a side of music that I hadn’t explored much back home, and it totally clicked.
Fast forward to my first single, “Crave.” It’s an alternative rock track with a punch of hard rock and metal vibes. The song is all about that overwhelming craving for something or someone that seems just out of reach. It’s raw, intense, and digs deep into that internal struggle between wanting and resisting. Rock meets real-life emotions!
One of the coolest projects I’ve worked on so far is “Live from Studio 201,” a live music show I co-created with some talented friends from college. We showcase emerging artists from LA, giving them the spotlight to perform their original music. It’s been such a rewarding experience, not only for the artists but for us too—we get to stay at the heart of LA’s music scene and connect with some seriously awesome talent.
Right now, I’m working on new music, playing around with different sounds, and I can’t wait to share what’s coming next. Stay tuned—I’ve got a lot more music on the way, and I’m excited to see where this crazy ride takes me!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any journey, there will always be ups and downs. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is being away from my home country, and at times, it can make you feel really small—just trying to figure everything out on your own, doing your best to make your music and voice heard. It can be overwhelming. I’ve had moments where I worry about disappointing my parents or even myself if things don’t work out, or the fear of failure creeps in. There are also times when comparisons start to happen, and I feel like I’m not doing enough. But when I catch myself overthinking all of this, I take a step back and reflect on everything I’ve already achieved. There were moments in my life when I thought these milestones were impossible, and yet, here I am. So, I’d say to anyone reading this, trust the process—the journey, with all its ups and downs, it’s there for a reason, and in the end, life has a way of working itself out.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer-songwriter and artist based in Los Angeles, where I specialize in vocal performance, songwriting, and music production. While I have a basic understanding of production, I use it to bring my creative vision to life. I have a strong passion for rock and pop, I craft emotional stories through powerful melodies and lyrics that resonate deeply. My debut single “Crave,” an alternative rock song infused with hard rock and subtle metal influences, is one of my proudest creations. The track explores the intense longing for something just out of reach and has amassed over 1.3 million views on Instagram reels.
Alongside my music, I’m the host, co-creator, and marketing head of “Live from Studio 201,” a live music show in LA that showcases emerging talent. It’s been an incredible experience staying at the heart of LA’s music scene and supporting other artists. One of the things that sets me apart is my versatility—not only in my vocal range but also in the languages I sing and speak in, including English, Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, Arabic, Portuguese and Spanish. This diversity allows me to connect with a wider audience through music. I believe in constantly evolving, both as a musician and as a person, and I’m excited to see where my journey leads next. Through all the crazy adventures of life, I remain dedicated to making music that moves people and leaves a lasting impact.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always excited to connect and collaborate with fellow artists! The creative exchange is what makes working with others so fulfilling—everyone brings their own unique skills and perspectives to the table, and there’s always so much to learn from each other. Whether you’re a musician, producer, or creative looking to explore new ideas, I’d love to hear from you.
If you’re passionate about your craft and put in the effort to create something meaningful, it would be an honor to collaborate. Feel free to reach out to me via social media or email. I’m open to exploring new projects and seeing what magic we can create together!
I also believe in supporting the artistic community—sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and helping each other grow. So, even if it’s just for a conversation or to exchange creative insights, I’m always open to that too!
