Today we’d like to introduce you to Ror Rodriguez.

Ror Rodriguez

Hi Ror, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born Luis Alberto Rodriguez, nicknamed Roar when I was a child by one of my siblings. I was born in the Coachella Valley; raised in a small town called Thermal. Number nine, from a family of ten. Being part of a large family of ten had its perks and also many hardships. Growing up a in small desolate town allowed for my imagination to run wild. I started performing, writing, and creating at a very young age. It was my way of creating the reality I wanted. It allowed me to be myself, whatever that was in that moment.

I feel like the arts in my community weren’t nourished enough, and a lot of our artistic resources in our schools were scarce. However, I always found ways of creating regardless of the circumstances and/or adversities I faced. In fact, I feel like the hardships I’ve faced as an artist are what has made me so resilient and constantly learning.

I moved to Los Angeles more than ten years ago, and it’s been a blessing and everything else in-between. I came out here with the purpose of being a working artist! An Estar! Haha! Through acting and film work, I met a friend who hired me as her assistant; working at an FX Studio. From there, after a few years of intense work and training; I managed to establish myself as an fx costume fabricator in the film industry. This has brought me success and experiences in my life that I’m very grateful for. I’ve gotten a chance to travel, work on incredible films, meet amazing people, and showcase my artistic skills. This has helped me invest into my passion for music and has kept me releasing my original music since 2011. Playing shows in various venues around LA has kept my dream and passion for making music alive.

I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I love. I make movie monsters and heroes, and I’m a songwriter and performance artist. It feels like a twisted reality sometimes, but it’s what makes sense for now.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road feels like it’s ever-changing. Sometimes I feel like I run on the most well-adaptive engine out there. Somehow I find ways to just coast by out of harm’s way, but I’ve gotten better at that with time. My reaction to the things that I can’t control has less stress on me.

If I can elaborate on any particular struggle for me, I’d say most have been financial. That was always an object that I felt like I had to overcome in order to be successful. Everything just seems to cost so much. Ha! Also, just having the courage as an artist to believe in yourself and invite people into your creative world. It’s a very sensitive place for an artist. The internet has changed life in general. Things are so much more accessible. You put your art out there for the masses. I want them to hear, I hope they like it, but you also have to be cool if they don’t. When you’re driven to create out of your own burning passion too, there is no stopping you, and nobody’s opinion will matter more than your own and how it makes you feel.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist. I specialize in songwriting, performance, and costume fabrication. I am the owner of my own business called, “Psychward Vision Studio.” We specialize in bringing your craziest ideas to life! I also own my own music publishing company called “Melodic Soundscape.” One of my goals is to always be true to myself. To harness a heightened sense of self-awareness that allows me to draw inspiration to create while staying in tune with my feelings and surroundings. I’d say listening to your inner voice is the smartest thing you can do in a world that likes to tell you how to be the minute you turn on your phone, radio, or television. Once you take complete ownership of your shit and get a good grasp of who you are, I think your authenticity shines. And that is what sets you apart.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Trust NO B****! Haha! Jk… Sort of. Always trust in yourself, above all else. If you fail, you got no one to blame but you. Keep the faith in you alive!!
