Today we’d like to introduce you to Reysha Rami.
Reysha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been developing as an artist since mid-2020 and began releasing music in May 2022. I primarily work with one producer, Dex Barstad, who has played an integral role in shaping my sonic palette. We’ve jumped between so many different genres over the years and only recently felt like we’ve really landed on a sound that is unique to and representative of us. Right now, I’m all about making music that makes me want to dance. Heavy yet minimalistic production and manipulated vocals are two things that will be a common denominator in my music this year. Visually, I’m so inspired by the cyberpunk genre.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think a really common struggle for so many artists is finding producers and songwriters who truly understand how to create the sound that you want to make. I feel so fortunate to have someone like Dex who is able to not only understand what I want but also challenge me to go even further in exploring those ideas. I don’t ever find myself being worried about what he’s going to do to our songs.
I think learning to be patient in this process of development has been an ongoing struggle. But I’m also grateful for having to learn this, because I have grown so much in these two years of trial and error, and I know that I would not be where I am with my sound and vision if I had released music whenever I wanted to. Practicing patience has allowed me to raise my standards of what to expect from myself with my art.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make dance/electronic music that is ridden with throbbing production from influences like Kim Petras, Cobrah, and Daft Punk. I want heavy, dark, industrial sounds that make you want to move. Lyrically, I go wherever; I’m not necessarily writing about real events, but moreso just going off of the feeling that the production might give me.
