Daily Inspiration: Meet Precious Jewel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Precious Jewel

Hi Precious, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started as a Down South girl with wild and wide dreams- starting off in Florida I often felt true to the eccentric reputation that folks from Florida get and I embraced it more and more as I grew into myself.. I’ve been singing soon as I could talk, and over the years that love has only grown to sharing that to the world. I’ve been blessed to have been able to find continuous tribes of people who align with the same goals and who I’ve been able to commune and grow creatively with from Washington DC to LA.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Because music is a. very intimate and spiritual process for me, I’ve always championed taking the time to find people who I can trust with understanding the importance of saying something meaningful and moving kindly and intentionally. I’ve had my struggles of finding those folks, giving too much benefit of the doubt, and. facing the consequences of moving too fast. It has been important to discern which opportunities align under a righteous spirit: people, musicians, venues, agents, organizations that care about people. beyond what they can consume from them, but who aim to create healthy, impactful and long-lasting musical experiences for those we encounter.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a songstress and eternal student of music. I intend to blend the generational traditions of soul, r&b, hip hop and jazz with newfound innovation inspired by the poetic irony that life today often draws. I prides myself in providing a unique live experience often with a band of equally passionate musicians by my side. I’ve been described as a calm amongst the storm, able to quiet audiences and bring them to an intimate attention toward melodies of love, self reflection, reckoning and affirmation. I am most proud of the rememberence that is growing and attached to my sets

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
COVID 19 taught me the importance of preventative health and holistic wellness. I think COVID 19 was a major wake up call for many of us who depended on healthcare as a reactive occurance rather than a daily habit; especially amongst much of the pressure that life puts on many to focus on survival and constant motion as opposed to slowing down and having. still moments to confront our health and condition better habits I believe COVID 19 also revealed the consistent failures of the state in caring for their citizens, and that it is important to prioritize your community members and be an active participant in its continuance.
