Daily Inspiration: Meet Paulina Aguirre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina Aguirre.

Hi Paulina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am from Ecuador and I come from a family of writers and composers. I didn’t like to read when I was a child so I used to put music to all of my reading, I did not know it was composing music… Music has never been supported in our country so I left in my 20s to Los Angeles to follow the american dream. I had a friend a fellow Ecuadorian music producer Pablo Aguirre, whom later I married and I asked him for work. He asked me to hire children for a project and I told him I knew how to do natural children’s voices and I asked for the opportunity. I needed the job. We sent the work to the company and they thought it was a group of children; they later said, the children are pretty good lol. Later on they discover me, but it was too late. The project allowed me to buy my first sauvage car and I saw heavens and God’s hand opening unique doors..

I also met Kenny O Brien vocal producer of Michael Bublé, Celine Dion, Josh Groban whom gave me the chance to work in many studios dling background vocals for different artists such as: Michael Buble, Luis Miguel, etc also Pablo Aguirre gave me the opportunity to work with Manzanero, Marco Antonio Solis amog others. You have to understand that for an Ecuadorian just to think of LA is a dream.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not smooth at all. In the beginning, I had a tourist visa. I did not want to stay illegal so it took lots of processes with documentation, also I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and sometimes working with that condition was a real struggle as well having my family and my parents away from me. It takes time to get the respect of people in the business there is always a race.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter, composers, actor and voice-over artist. I had the blessing of getting a Latin Grammy in 2009 and four nominations, also I am a voice over actor for movies and the voice for one of the most important softwares in the world that due to privacy, I can’t disclose. As a songwriter, I worked with Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas Camila Group, among others.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
It is a condition of personal happiness due to hard work, being a good human being, talent, discipline and faith, not luck.
