Daily Inspiration: Meet Nyahzul Blanco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nyahzul Blanco.

Nyahzul, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my pursuit of tattooing when someone very dear to me passed away, this was a turning point on starting my tattoo story. To get to where I am, I had to develop a very disciplined, everyday practice with my art. It was no longer something I did on the side but a true commitment to who I wanted to be.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No smooth road for me! In 2016, I started an apprenticeship to tattoo and when I was getting close to finishing it, my mentor was not able to continue and I had to start over at another studio. In 2019 I finally started doing my apprentice tattoos, but then that studio closed… A few months later covid happened! It’s been a lot of starts and stops, perseverance kept me going and thankfully I have now been working full-time as a tattoo artist for three years.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a tattoo artist. Specializing in glitch, blackwork and illustrative realism. I am most proud of being able to have a career where I can change people’s life through art. I have my own artistic voice, I’m always learning and challenging myself. I have developed a style that I call glitch tattoos, where I use colors vibrating off the image as energy does.

How do you think about luck?
It’s been a bit of both, though I think is more about knowing yourself and choosing to be proactive rather than reactive to what life throws at you (whether you consider it lucky or unlucky). Life is in constant motion and things don’t always work out as we plan but hopefully along the way you build to have the tools to deal with change and the courage to embrace it.
